Good advice DDFW....eBaying even when you think you have ebayed everything...I like it.
Lucielle..do think you should ask your sis to understand you just can't afford a big do. Would your mum like it if she thought you were being forced into doing something you couldn't afford? I hope not, anyway.
Best of luck with it all. Agree with Piq redundancy money is tax free up to £30k.MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Maybe you agreed to help with your mums party pre knowing about the looming possible redundancies so could you discuss with family a less expensive alternative that would still be a fab 'do' due to your change in circumstances?0

Nothing has been confirmed yet. Told oldest sister whats potentially going to happen. Before I told her shde didn't think the venue would be a good idea as we're really not sure what mum wants. I originally thought it was the 3 daughters and off spring. Any way I told her that there was only so much I can cope with and I think I've reached my threshold. I did feel wimpy telling her that.
Any way I've dug out the ST Johns Wort and will start popping them in due course.
DD1 has made gingerbread biscuits which are, how shall I put it, resemble nuclear missiles and are taking an age to munch. DD2 has made syrup sponge.
Have finally got some washing on the line.

There's no need to feel wimpy. It sounds like ideas are being bandied about but as you say no-one is sure what your mum wants, she may not want a big expensive do. Perhaps all she'd like is a family day something like a family picnic [sorry, can't seem to find when her birthday actually is]
Can you ask your mum what she'd like to do for her birthday? It may not have to be so costly after all.

Wimpy? You run a home, have 4 kids, animals, a job, plus a business and yourself and your husband to look after...on top of that you are lowering your debt and have been given the news your husbands income could be vulnerable...err not wimpy...fantastic and normal and human!
You were not wimpy telling your sister, you were honest...if only more people were honest it would make life and communication alot better and more simple..0 -
Oldest sister has spoken to mum and to be honest she would agree with who ever was speaking to her at that time. On the rates provided in the email it would be in the region of fifty quid per head and plus we'd need a room, well several with my lot.
Well I've finally listed something of ebay. You would think I'd be a whizz at it, we can do over 100 plus sales for the business per week, so why do I have a block on doing it at home? Fingers crossed they sell.

First day back at work was quite good fun. Not sure if anybody has seen the TV prog, Antiques Roadtrip, well they were filming it in front of our office window (opposite us is an antiquey place, next door to the business). First I knew of it was when David Barby rolled up in a red Mercedes Convertible. T'was very exciting I tell you! I obviously need to get out more as I was the only one in the office who recognized him.
OH has surpassed himself with our new male mannequin. He decided to dress him in some chainsaw safety chaps and nothing else. All you could see when you came round the corner was a big, brown bottom, peeking round the corner of the window. I nearly we myself laughing. I'm desparate to dress him but OH said bits kept falling off when he was doing it.
Supposed to be finishing off the stock taking tonight but OH has had a call out to a caravan park with a poorly machine, so I'm in charge. I'm in the doghouse because I didn't come round soon enough. In my defence I did send a text and he didn't reply and he has got a phone and he can use it!!!!!
Accountant is coming tomorrow night, so we'll be able to pick her brains on all our options.

Okay, I've just snorted all over my keyboard at the picture of your mannequin in safety chaps with his bottom hanging out. Laughing even more at the picture of his bits falling off...
Who needs marketing, you'll have them queuing for a look at the bottomless chaps and brown bum :rotfl:
