Vet has been to give horse his 2nd jab. Whilst he was there had a peek at his foot. Worst case scenario off for 6 months due to ligament/tendon trouble (fingers crossed don't think its that bad). Needs to get his shoe back on, so I will try to get hold of the lesser spotted farrier (a rare breed) and beg, offer my body (usually get refused) failing that a bacon butty to see if he will put a new one on. Had to go and get some horsey supplies to keep his foot bandaged and came home £70 lighter!!!!!

OH has been busy trying to sort my back brakes out on my car and put new discs in to find it needs new calipers. Quote for calipers £180.......amount in car account, eeeeerm.........nothing!!!!!!! How did that happen? No idea. Put the old discs back on and wait until the car account magically replenishes itself.

I have made a baked chocolate cheesecake. Not sure how it will taste as it was quite bitter. Also got my pastry ready for the mince pie run. Having cornish pasties tomorrow night with mushy peas which are soaking overnight ready to be cooked. Worked this morning and in again tomorrow.

Oh dear the horses are worrying and expensive toys aren't they? I hope the lad's foot gets better quickly and doesn't need any more vet visits (am still hoping to marry an equine vet, not doing too well on finding a desirable single one at the moment!)

My emergency fund evaporates too, not sure how, thought it was in an airtight container....

Yum to the chocolate cheesecake and cornish pasties, how do you cook mushy peas, I'd love to know.

  • I am also drooling at the thought of cornish pasties and choccie cheesecake. CAn you save me a virtual slice please? Commiserations on the horse and car woes-my pesky car always goes wrong at the worst possible time-as do my guinea pigs which are the closest thing I have to horses!

Chocolate cheesecake a bit of a disappointment, used dark choc so quite bitter. I haven't tried it cold as we were too impatient to wait until it had cooled.

Mushy peas are dead easy. Soak 'em overnight with a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda, rinse. Put in a pan with cold water bring to the boil and then simmer until mushy. At the end add black pepper and knob of butter. As it gets close to the end watch them for burning.

Farrier coming on Monday, yippee, I think, as it will cost. Been to the boys and left his stuff for him. Made a few payments and updated the challenge.

Today I have made mince pies, prepared veggies for tomorrow, got the piggies snuggled into their blankets, have the turkey nestling in its tin with a light covering of butter, orange and lemon slices topped off with bacon and tinfoil. DD1 has made 2 apple crumbles which we are going to have 1 tonight with homemade custard. I have got the Brie pot starters ready for tomorrow and got some fruit soaking in brandy for a no cook chocolate torte.......and breathe. Think that's 99% of the work done!:T Still got the table to set up which I might leave until tomorrow and a load of washing to be put away.

We are going to a friends in the evening for drinks (at least I'll be drinking, OH is on night call) and on Boxing Day another friends for lunch. Gosh I have a social life this year!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

Just to wish everyone who reads my ramblings a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS and if I was clever and knew where to get santas and Christmas tree smilies from I would insert them here!
