I think the job is a fantastic opportunity especially in this economic climate.
    What are your sons thoughts?

Just told him and he's in shock. It's up to him now. The only thing we've stipulated that is, if he does take it he does some day release a) to get some formal qualifications and b) so he is still mixing with other young people. Watch this space.

    Fab News!

Theres nothing to stop him going to college next year or the year after or even the year after that. You may well find that a years practical experience more than makes up for whatever his final grades end up being and may even be an incentive to work harder at school.

    Hi there L,

Could this opportunity for your son be a spur to get the grades for college? He'll have experience of working in his chosen area but that might be a short term job and he might then do best, for his long term life chances and career, to go to college afterwards. he'll be able to save some money towards that too, hopefully. I think the world is becoming more and more qualification minded and without these he is likely to be unable to progress beyond a certain point. And it's always easier to get the qualifications when you're young. But I know nothing about agricultural qualifications, (beyond what I hear on the Archers, lol), so I'm talking generally. And I think it's a wonderful opportunity for him and it shows a remarkable degree of trust in his abilities by the farmer.

Probably time for an update. paid £60 off the debt, its going very slowly now as the difference in OHs wages is being felt. Still got my car to tax which will come out of my wages next week. I have no children today, 3 are away at Scout camp and DS1 is at his lambing job. Got 3 loads of washing outside including the throws we use on the settee. Might give them 10 mins in the tumble drier when they come in to fluff them up a bit. 6 lemon drizzle cakes in the oven, some to freeze some for a scout fundraiser and a couple to take with me when I go away next week. If I go away.

Ds1 went to meet his potential employer last night. OH and I went as well. He's going to start on Monday for the Easter hols but not Thursday as I've got things booked, dentists and hopefully the pictures, as well as getting my eyebrows waxed with a voucher from Christmas. He still isn't 100% about going full time but in my opinion I think he will. I think I'm still going to pay his deposit for his room and then that option is still open, I have checked that I can get the dosh back and also keep saving up for his fees, if that's the route he wants to go down.

My bit of news for the week, after seeing a solicitor last night Oh and I have signed a lease for a workshop/showroom for his garden machinery business. It still means OH will have to work but we can move the business forward. Its in a prime location, does need a bit of work to make it into the space we want it to be. We've had several meetings with suppliers and just waiting for our friendly builder to come and have a look.

OH still wants me to go away but I feel I should stay and help paint the workshop and keep things going. We'll just have to see what happens.
