Paper bricks are supposed to burn for an hour. I have been making them throughout the summer but struggling to get them dry. I'm going to use them on my stove. The brick maker cost £17 (I think off ebay). My friends save all their papers for me as I only buy 2 per week max. Not sure how many papers it takes per brick.

    Hi

I have been reading your diary for a while and am amazed at how much you can fit into your day! Horses, kids, pets, work and paper brick making!!

We got a brick maker last year as we have a wood burning fire. The only thing is my husband makes the bricks and it takes him ages!!! He cuts up the paper really small and leaves it to soak for ages. Yesterday he spent ages doing it and only made 4!!! I keep going on to him about the lady who makes 12 at a time!!! and what is he doing wrong? Do you just rip up the papers a bit and how long do you soak?

We are in the algarve so don't have a problem getting them dry, just a problem with making a decent amount to motivate him that it is worth it.

    Cheers R

Thanks for reading Rebecca, hope I haven't bored you to death. I just shred the newspapers and I have a big tub that I put them in. I have been leaving them for 3 days, if you put a splash of bleach in, it does help the paper to go mushy. I don't do that every time, only when I can be bothered.

Shaun, getting the paper isn't the problem (if you could see my dining room, you'd know what I mean) its getting the actual bricks dry. I have a small plant house where I have been putting them to dry. The best place is on a cooling rack on top of the stove when its lit but it defeats the object.

New dishwasher installed, dirty pots and plates also installed. Off to M&S tomorrow. Not looking forward to it 4 children, grumpy grandma and a wheelchair! Come home and go and do the 'other' job at 5.15. Really am very tired and worried I am going to spend all hols asleep. OH has made himself an appointment at the docs. I am also off to see them as I have got sore ears!

Potentially got DS1 a weekend job stacking shelves at the garage where I work. Only pays £3.50 per hour but better than nothing.

Got 5 parcels to do from OHs shop so best get on. Also got to do the nags and !!!!!! pick the field as I haven't done it for a few days. Lovely!

Field now has a few less poop piles but plenty to go at!!! Compost bin is getting fuller, should grow some lovely veggies next year. Darling DS2 crashed the wheelbarrow into the back of my ankle, how he didn't see my large derriere waddling in front of him beggars belief. Tis now very red and sore. Must go and put some money in the swear box as the air was quite blue!
