Note the way she starts backpedalling when it's pointed out quite how daft her conspiracy theory is starting to sound. Most amusing!

    if you must know!!

A little on the floor which came up quite easily (laminated floor).. a little on a cheap rug which was bought from next, but they decided to chuck the rug as it wasn't worth the hassle on the day... and some on the kids clothes... that clear things up?!

If the paint tin was thrown at the wall, and it is supposed that the lid came off from the impact then there should be impact spray up or down the wall.

Did the photos of the sofa show any damage or paint on the wall above the sofa?

The OP is asking where he stands. If he means legally, then few of us can respond with any real knowledge.

If it was me, and it really happened, I would fight to the death for justice (figuratively speaking, of course). Insurance companies may seem nasty pieces of work to the customer, as these organisations attempt to wriggle out of paying whenever possible.

If I'd pulled a fast one, I'd accept I'd been found out, and feel pretty ashamed. Insurance companies seem nasty pieces of work to the customer, as these organisations attempt to wriggle out of paying whenever possible, but those who defraud them increase premiums for the rest of us.

It's in our interest that they root out the fraudsters.

No one knows what really happened in this case, so I for one would be interested in the upshot.

Someone who hangs around to cause trouble.

    DMG's no conspricy theorist.

What are the real chances of some small child picking up a new tin of paint and throwing it with enough force so that it hits a wall above a sofa, and then ends up all over said sofa?

What are the chances of someone who wants a new sofa buying a tin of paint and throwing it over a sofa in some lame attempt to defraud an insurance company?

You don't need mulder and scully to work it out, do you?

I shan't comment on the Tesco thread, or upon dmg24.

    It does indeed sound unlikely.

    Another comedy thread!

How many forum members does it takes to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
    3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Fraudsters do more than put up premiums - they make it as difficult as possible for genuine claimees. If the op's friend is genuine then I feel sorry for him, and he'll probably give up in the end. However, if this is not the case then I hope he is found out and prosecuted for fraud. In the end - I can't see how it's possible to be definitive one way or the other. I certainly don't think it can be judged on here:rolleyes:

Insurance companies have only their own greed to blame though - every time I renew my policy I'm treated to the hard sell of 'add-ons' - the most common carrot being 'imagine you dropped a tin of paint on your new sofa, madam...'

HC, I know what you mean about the customs thing - I always think I could never pass a lie detector test as the more innocent I was the more I would stress!
