When I first started reading on here I found lots of fantastic ideas for low-cost homemade gifts, but they are dotted everywhere, so I wanted to start a thread where we can all post our ideas, a little explanation of how to make, approx cost, and maybe some nice photos of finished products? I hope everyone will join in,…

I'm going to be baking with a bunch of kids this weekend and I'm looking for a cookie recipe I can mix up, put in the fridge before their arrival. It will have to withstand a bit of handling/playing with and I want the cookies to smell of Christmas. Any help appreciated, please. Also would welcome ideas for a simple…

Teenage Boy Presents.....help!
Hi, I have a son (age 17) - and I really am at a loss to what to get him. We tend to spend half the money on what he asks for and half on surprises. I actually can't think of one this year. So I could really do with your expert opinions. Stuff about him. He isn't into football or sports. He is studying to be a musician…

Ideas for a gift for my aunts and uncles
Hello there. I'm trying to think of a good inexpensive gift for my aunts and uncles. Aunt no. 1's main interest is in antiques - she's an antiques dealer - and I got her a coffee table-style antiques photo book and price guide last year (she loved it). I can't get her a book two years in a row, even though I've spotted…

Decorating sweet bag
Hi We always buy a small gift for our friends kids every Christmas, but now they are getting older (between 8-13), this year we have just got a mixture of sweets for them. We did plan on putting them in clear cone shaped bags from Lakeland with some ribbon, but the bags are tiny so we need to rethink! We have some zipped…

Personalised mug
Does anyone have a view on the best personalised mugs. I would like to get one with a photo on it for a friend but I would like it to be a good quality mug. I am not too worried about the cost within reason. It also needs to be dishwasher safe. Thanks for any views. Greenhopeful.

Xnas Party in Hotel
Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes Our small Company reserved for and paid for in full for 25 people for the 'do' but only 21 turned up. The hotel refused to either refund the difference or suplly extra booze to the value which is £120. Am I being ripped off here or are they correct? They do provide a good…

What to put in tin
I want to get my grandson 9 one o those tins to put "stuff" in. I'll have his name put on the front but what to put inside? He is mad on compasses so I will get that and the only other thing I can think of is a small torch. Years ago a penknive would have been essential but obviously not these days - it's a no no. Just had…

Christmas flowers or mini tree, what site?
Has anyone seen any good offers on flowers (to send through the post) or mini postable Christmas trees around? The cheapest I can find for the trees are £20 but I know sometimes people have good codes to use ontop! :xmastree::xmastree:

Small size Christmas gift 5yr old boy
My son and his family may have to fly to America in a couple of weeks for medical treatment for one of their children. They will be there up to 8 weeks so will be away for Christmas. I'm trying to think of a small size gift for each they can take from us for the children. The budget is around £20 per child, we have tons of…

Christmas shoebox appeal - help I missed the deadline
Hello all. I need some ideas. I have a number of shoeboxes for the christmas shoebox appeal run by the Samaritans Purse. Long story short, I went to drop off a number of shoeboxes on the 18th Nov (the final day) but the boxes had already been collected form the collection point. When I tried to contact the main depot I…

Inexpensive gift boxes for vodka hampers
I'm making miniature bottles of flavoured vodka for all the adults this year and am going to need boxes to put them all in. The bottle dimensions are 14 x 8 x 3cm . I'm having so much trouble finding something that is going to be big enough for them to get 3-4 bottles each. Does anyone know of a good website or place to…

There's more to life than Nut roast!
Can anyone recommend any ideas for a Vegetarian Christmas dinner main course? It's for about 10 adults so needs to be something fairly substantial but I really can't face another nut roast...there must be more options? Oh, and one family member absolutely loathes parsnips so anything with even a trace of parsnip is off the…
