I dream of a MF home for my plants
I’m starting myself a diary here after spending the last few days reading and lurking on the site. I used to have a diary over on debt free wannabe many years ago that was super helpful in getting my debt paid off. I can’t remember my old log in so am starting afresh. I have 12.5 years left on the mortgage - it’s split…

This is it! 2027 is the goal...update
Hello I have been lurking around these boards for the past year, I have finally made the decision to start a diary to track the progress of my goal. I'm hoping that it will hold me accountable and perhaps inspire others along the way. As of May 2019 my mortgage balance was £118, 842 4 years into a 10 year fix over a 20…

Saving, Living, and Ditching the Mortgage
Hey everyone! Long time lurker. At my lowest I was here reading the SLLM posts hoping one day I will have my own mortgage and staying strong letting money sit and grow. These days I have my own mortgage on a lovely flat in a lovely city, almost half way through my 5yr fix now. Want to tackle the mortgage but hardly have…

Trying to pay off my mortgage early but facing a dilemma
Hi all, I need to make a decision and would like to share some thoughts about my current situation and see your feedback please. Wife and I signed up for a 35years joint mortgage 5 years ago and like many we would like to be mortgage free well before that date. We are with HSBC and we have a 10 % overpayment allowance per…

How do I prove the house is mine?
Apologies to everyone reading this if it comes across as a stupid question….. I paid off my mortgage in January 2025. All I have to "prove" this is a letter from HSBC saying that they'd received my last ever payment. Hooray!! 🎉🎉 A year on though, that's all I have. That letter. And all that basically says is, i've paid the…

Shaving off the years at Sleepy Hollow
Finally after YEARS of talking about moving DH and I have done the big move. We've significantly increased our mortgage and started off on a 34 year term to give us some breathing space for a larger mortgage payment. We're aiming to reduce our term to 20 by making regular overpayments. Interested to read along and see what…

Making my house a home and my life my own
I am long overdue a new diary as I have just read the first line of my last one. I was married, in my previous house with a much larger mortgage. I hadn’t realised that this was still the same one. I will add all the financial bits and my plans over the coming days, but the title says it all really.

Manifesting Money Magnet
Well, hello there, 👋 Be diary, new me! ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ I'm starting a thread on the mortgage fee wannabe section because that's one of the things I really really really want to be! I have been a member of the forum for over 10 years, rather on and off mind, but had to change everything when I was found out. So I'm back new times…

Z's MFW journey
As I've been watching the MFW forum for a while, I thought it would be good to start my own thread. We bought our current house in summer 2022 and owe £126,000 on the mortgage. Hoping to pay this off before 2028 as we'll be 40 then. We're on a 2 year fixed deal until Sept 2024 at 2.64% on a 30 year term. Obviously a bit of…

New Mortgage, New Marriage, New Allotment - Oh My!
Hi Everyone, I thought it was time for a fresh diary considering how much has changed since I started the last one. I bought my first home back in October 2016 and with the help of MSE was able to pay off around 88k of my mortgage over the 5 year term. Sadly my OH was diagnosed with colon/liver cancer early on in the…

Final Payment - Natwest
Hi, on the 2nd of Jan I went into Santander and did a transfer for 70k to Natwest which was the final amount due. The payment went through fine. Come a few days later the 70k hasn't been allocated to my mortgage account and I'm getting nervous. I have rang Natwest twice, once the person on the end of the phone said he…

So now what?
We cleared debt of £ 64,346.53. We cleared a mortgage of £118k. So now what? We need to get saving and making the most of our money. Half of us is retired. The other isn’t working but may well have to (and possibly wants to) return to work in two years time. I find posting here keeps me super focussed so I am going to be…

Overpaying mortgage not reducing interest
HSBC say they calculate their mortgage interest daily. I overpay my mortgage by 1k every month (annually less then 10% of capital borrowed so no fee). Despite reducing the capital owed every month my interest doesnt reduce in the long run it seems to go up or down by about ten pounds overall stays the same. Am I missing…

New life, same goal! Pursey’s quest to be mortgage free.
I started a diary back in 2011 with the aim of being mortgage free within 10 years; a goal I would’ve smashed (within 7), if we hadn’t bought our dream house in the hills. Life has changed so much since 2011, most significantly because we are now blessed with 3 wonderful children. Then we found somewhere perfect to live,…

New year, new goal
Starting a new diary as I didn’t update the old one for a while and it was closed. We had a pretty large mortgage of 395k taken out 7 years ago and I set myself the goal to be mortgage free by 50! My old thread had that title. Anyways to recap - we’ve been diligently chipping away at that and I’m pleased to say that today…

10 years to clear £334K - our FIRE journey
We bought our house late 2014 and have been (very) gradually doing it up. So far we have replaced the roof, oil tank and boiler and completely refurbished the study, living room and one bedroom. We have three bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and utility still to go. We recently re-mortgaged and have released some equity to do…
