Hi All:hello: I am starting my PGDE in Secondary School Home Economics (getting the OS word out!) in August this year and thought it might be a good idea to have somewhere to share our student moneysaving expolits. Cert ED + PGCE
A friends son wants to teach, but is unsure whether to go for an Secondary PGCE or a Cert Ed/FE PGCE (in view of the introduction of the new 14-19 diplomas). He has asked me if there would be any bar to him doing both of these, one after the other,so that he can teach across all age groups. I don't know the answer,I would…

Access to Learning application refused
My husband is a full-time student. Up until recently, he was also working full-time to pay for his studies. He had to quit his job at the end of last year because it was starting to take a toll on his uni work. It's a very competitive field. He was starting to fall behind his classmates, who can afford to take unpaid…

Anyone having problems with getting student overdrafts?
Hi guys, Is there anyone else having probems with extending their student overdrafts? I've had an RBS student account and credit card for nearly 4 years now, they sort of threw the CC and a £1250 overdraft at me at my fresher's fair. I cancelled my CC in September, but when I went to increase my OD limit to £2000 the other…

This Month (march 09) determines next academic student loan interest rate
And i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the quantitative easing measure enacted by the bank of england is going to up the cpi/rpi for this month? The rate was otherwise set to go negative, so is this quantitative easing really bad timing for students with loans?

British Computer Society Student Competition
Just been given this link: http://www.bcsstudentcontest.com/ from a friend of mine. It's completely useless to me as I couldn't programme for toffee but as it's for full time students and the prize is a shiny computer I thought someone might fancy a try :) (I would have…

I'm with the Halifax Bank of Scotland and I have my Regular Savings, Web-Saver, Instant Access Savings and oddly, Student Current Account with them. Distance Learning Courses???
Hi, i posted this on the Jobseeking, Employment, and Training thread and they suggested I post this here! Save money on energy drinks, cosmetics, food and more!
Make-up is expensive. Redbull is 2 dollars a can, plus tax. And you NEED the energy after a long night of drinking with your friends. Losing weight is impossible if you can't afford it. Then there's dinner, an anniversary gift for your significant other, air freshener for the dorm and maybe some vitamins because you aren't…

Student Loan Payments
Not sure if in the right area… I was a student from 1996 to 2000 and took a student loan each year (in addition to the grant I got my local authority). These loans are the ‘older’ type where you pay by Direct Debit instead of via your wages. Up to now, I have been able to defer as my wage has always been under the…

Learning English
Hi All, I hope I'm in the right place! I have an Estonian friend who manages to have basic conversations with the level of English he possesses, but it isn't strong enough and he isn't confident enough to deal with people in formal, official settings or apply for a job his skills merit. I believe he is currently using…
