What to expect from an initial 1 hour free session with a financial adviser?
I've finally organised a free session with a IFA with an eye to sorting out some pension and tax questions. I'm concerned that it will be a one way conversation with me providing information and him filling in some form followed by me getting a request for ££ in order to get the answers to any of my questions. Is that…

Distribution of inheritance
My dad died last year and him and his wife had universal credit which covered rent and council tax. But now making a claim for his wife she has way too much savings. What is the view if she decided to distribute inheritance now to reduce her savings to below £16k or is that unethical. It’s all set out in her will

ASI GARS fund
I have the above fund in my portfolio, and I think the time has come to ditch it. Looking at the content of the fund, it's mainly invested in cash and bonds (67% / 29%). I was thinking of replacing it with something like Capital Gearing Trust. Would this be a sensible move?

Virgin Money linked savings account
According to their Twitter account, Virgin Money are increasing the rate on their linked saving account to 1.00% on 1st March. It is likely that this will result in a very large number of applications for their current account, and also numerous deposits to existing accounts. Can their systems cope with this major increase…

Hello, I was issued a shares certificate (6 years ago). After completing a share save scheme with a previous company I worked for. Where to invest lump sum now in 2022 - a fund or a property
I have a lump sum currently sitting uninvested. I don't have any debts and already have a property that's let out and a holiday let. Was going to invest in a fund through an existing broker, but perhaps I should be steering away from anything shares related at the moment? I know the property market is fairly high at the…

Investing more than £85k through a UK bank
Apologies if this is a stupid question. I know very little about investments. I am thinking of investing around £100k through one of my bank's investment funds. However I note that the BoE guarantee limit is £85k should the bank go bust. Does this mean I need to diversify the agents/platforms/banks through which I invest…

How to invest via GIA to manage any tax due
Hi all I've read with interest on the board about investing in a GIA and making use of Capital Gains Allowance and Dividend Allowance to minimise tax due on any gains. Assuming I (aged 42, no spouse) have very good cash buffer, used up S&S ISA/JISA (son) allowances (multiasset funds/global index trackers), and maximised…

Spam investement emails
I've just had 3 spam emails from "moneysavingexpert-diageo" with Martin Lewis as the sender offering a 7.45% coupon. What's puzzling is the company address looks legit and is in London, although that could be to try and make the email look authentic. The last email has this at the bottom. "For questions about this list,…

VLS Fund switch
I'm currently invested in LS 40% fund and was thinking about whether now is a good time to switch to LS 60% as prices have gone down. However, I'm not sure about the tax implication regarding the 30 day rule - if I were to sell the 40% fund, can I buy the 60% fund within the 30 days as I don't want to stay out of the…

Raisin Customer Service
Is it just me, or is it acceptable for any service provider to state that they will deal with your issue "as quickly as possible" whilst saying they are receiving so many new orders this may take some time? A week after sending details to change my nominated bank account Raisin have not processed the change and are…

50K limit on deposits for Russian nationals
What the heck is that? I have been living in this country for 22 years, raising family, paying taxes, saving for a pension. i web isa transaction charge
A quick question, does the £5 transaction charge for funds always come out of the
ISA account, instead of another account with iweb? Lots of £5 transactions will eats into the
ISA pot. I realise the ongoing charge is taken out of the isa fund. Would be interesting to know if this is the same for other platform providers?

Opening an overseas bank account?
Paranoid maybe, but seeing the poor people fleeing Kiev, and having witnessed the currency collapse in Argentina, I’m wondering how to put some savings abroad. Any such bank accounts available to us that provide a debit card you can use around the world, and whatever happens to the UK and the pound I’ll be protected?
