Dealing with NS&I & Power of Attorney
Due to my elderly father's failing health, I've had to invoke my Power of Attorney to handle his affairs with NS&I which has been accepted. BUT it appears that all requests for cashing in Premium Bonds, etc. for his care home fees are to be handled by post instead of through his online account. Has anyone else come across…

Is iweb as bad as its made out on trust pilot?
Hi, I was planning to transfer my £2000 S&S isa to iweb, as they have both etf's that I'm invested in and would save me money. However I happened to read the awful reviews of it on trust pilot. I know these aren't always great but there seems to be a lot of unhappy people. Do many people here use them, and have you had…

Junior savings closure
We opened a junior savings account with Virgin money for our son a few years ago. We want to close it to use the money towards buying a new house with his own room but have been told we can only close for the benefit of the child - obviously as we haven't been paying tax on the savings I guess. Does this count as for his…

Financial Adviser vs DIY
My 89 yr old Mother has £285k which is currently in her bank deposit account (house sale proceeds) which we are trying to manage for her. She will keep £85k readily available (premium bonds etc) and invest the rest. We have consulted a reputable FA who has provided a recommendation of an S&S ISA of £20k and the rest in a…

SIPP annual allowance and salary cap - gross or net of tax?
Am I right in thinking that: - the £40,000 annual allowance takes into account tax reclaimed at source, so a basic rate taxpayer can pay in a maximum of £32,000 - the salary cap does not take into account tax reclaimed at source, so someone with a salary of £32,000 can pay in £32,000 and have it grossed up to £40,000?

Investing in GBP or foreign currency
I have a sum of money in pounds that I'm looking to invest. However not currently based in the UK. I am wondering if I invest it in a UK index fund or transfer to my local currency and invest here. The money would be invested in the name of a trust. Weighing up the currency conversion costs versus tax and other…

Advice on deciding between Vanguard and Trading212 for S&S ISA
Am thinking to finally open an S&S ISA for the first time, have narrowed my platform choice to Vanguard and Trading212. Wondered if anyone has opinions on which one they would go for. Vanguard for me has the size and reputation and the funds I'd probably begin with but Trading212 is fee free and also has Vanguard funds but…

S & P 500 - what platform?
Hi All, I was looking at investing £1000 as a lump sum into an S&P 500 index fund and then pay £100 a month as a monthly amount into it. I'm struggling to find a platform to do this through that would have low charges/fees through a stocks and shares ISA? Could anyone help? I was looking to invest in other funds in the…

Assetz Capital - P2P Lending
Just a word of warning for those who have invested (or thinking of investing in Assetz Capital) - I have been waiting for 7 months to withdraw my funds from 3 accounts with Assetz. I fully understand the risk of P2P lending but to invest in a 30 day cash account and give notice to withdraw in May and still be waiting in…

Should I switch my sas isa from fidelity?
Hi, my isa was recently moved to fidelity as part of two companies merging. The isa has performed well from such a small investment, but has only £1900 in it in two etf's. I'm fine with it except that fidelity charge a £45 a year fee on accounts with less than 7.5k in them, obviously a pretty high portion of my small…

Opening a Stocks ISA but not paying into it
I opened a stocks ISA but haven't paid into it yet. If I found a better Stocks ISA somewhere else. Am I able to open one there and start paying into that one as I have not paid into the other one yet? Or would I need to pay into the first one and apply to transfer the ISA to the other broker?

NS&I: switch from Income Bonds to Premium Bonds
On Monday this week I used the 'switch to premium bonds' form to make a switch from income bonds to premium bonds. The online chat said it would only take a few days (I should have known better!). I use the chat function today and they have said i) they can't check from the webchat whether my application's in the queue,…

Investments not in an ISA
I have some investments in one of Nutmeg's funds or
whatever they are, not in an ISA because I'd already subscribed to an ISA that tax
year. Does this mean if I sell it the profit is classed as CGT? It’s under the CGT limit so assume I don’t have to declare
it to HMRC? However, if it was going to be over the £12,300 CGT…

Share save shares & Capital gains tax
Hi there My wife has been working at her company for around 20 years and has built up shares over this time. Although the company has done quite well it is risky ‘ keeping all our eggs in one basket’ and with CGT rates potentially changing we thought we would begin to cash in some of the shares and we were unsure of one…

Risk with having high portfolio % with one provider?
Dear all, Currently have around 45% of my portfolio with VLS. Am considering putting some £ into Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS
ETF (GBP) | VWRL, which would bump it up to 60% of portfolio in Vanguard
funds. Just wondering if there is any risk or reason against having such a %
with one provider. Thanks in advance.

Views on advisors
Hey guys, I'm keen to get people's views on financial advisors when it comes to creating a portfolio.. 1. Did you bother when starting out, or just learnt as you went, carefully 2. Do you continue to use one? If so in what capacity? 3. Assuming you *dont* use someone to do it for you (since they take a % cut) presumably…

Really basic platform question!
Disclaimer: this is probably a simple question for you guys but it's just occurred to me.. And I need some validation... Say you wanted to invest in a global tracker fund.. 1. You'd need a provider/platform to execute this for you, right? 2. The cash is then invested in this index, owned by whoever 3. Assuming this index…

Taxes in the UK on investing in stocks
Hi, I have a couple questions regarding getting taxed on profits in the UK through selling shares. Firstly, when you sell a share in a company and use that same money to buy another share in another company, you are liable to taxes because you sold the share and therefore it becomes taxable right? Or do you only get taxed…
