NS&I savings certificates tracking
Hi, Can someone answer a question regarding NS&I savings certificates. Unfortunately NS&I are not answering their phones thanks to some sort of flu going around ;-) Prior to 2017, NS&I provided a complete holders record annually but no longer. On that record it says that certificates issues prior to sept 2012 are omitted…

Bank and Building Society Interest.
Confused! I am retired and higher rate tax payer with pensions and interest from probably a dozen institutions. When I was working I had to do tax returns but when I retired some years ago they said they didnt require them but I had to tell them interest received each year. Then the switch to gross interest and the…

VLSx versus Global Track + cash
As bonds are relatively expensive and not guaranteed are products like VLS and similar really any better than a generic low cost global tracker and keeping the low risk "percentage" as cash... I appreciate the funds do the re-balancing for you, but I'm not really overly concerned by that...

What to do with a small lump sum
We took out a savings plan in 1991. It matures in 12 months, although we could cash in today for £34,000. But, is there any point investing that money? Most savings accounts are at 0.1%. I don't really need to spend it. But what is the best return I can get for stuffing it somewhere?

Bond fund as alternative to savings?
As savings rates are now rubbish and will likely be so for a long time ( i think at least another decade) , is it now time to consider various flavours of bond funds as an alternative? I'm thinking the risk of leaving a lot of cash lying around doing nothing is now less than investing in debt which the whole world is now…

£15k savings options
Hi AllMy wife and I have saved £15k over the past year which is currently sitting in a normal everyday current account. We're aware we need to move it to a more suitable account, but we want to save more (around £500-£1000) a month, so we're not sure what would be the best option? Thanks in advance.

Money left to me in a will, solicitors want me to pay them for releasing it!? HELP!
Hi everyone, I'll try and keep it brief! I was left money from the sale of my nana's house when she passed away about 10 years ago, this was to come to me on my 21st birthday (2018). However, the solicitor she used to write her will retired around 7 years ago and the company that took over his existing clients never picked…

Advice sought on what to do with £1.2m pay out
Please excuse the very
long post. I would be grateful for
some advice on how to manage a large compensation payment that I have received

Is interest on savings always calculated once a year?
I can't get my head around this, maybe you can help! Scenario: if I pay £100 per month into my childs JISA (3.25% interest) and say they caclulate interest every September then the £500 I have paid in since April will then be counted for the interest calculation. All the time it has been sitting there (growing by £100…

NS&I Direct Saver
I followed a link from this site to NS&I Direct Saver because it said it was an instant access account, protected by the 'government' with a giant 1% interest rate. I wish I hadn't! It seems that, like most government enterprises, it's clunky and run by idiots. I found that each time I opened the website it had…

He found some old letters from 2001/2002 in the loft. * One set of letters (Friends Provident) explained that if successfully floated on the stock market then he would be entitled to 376 shares. * The other set of letters (Scottish Provident)…
