Diversifying within US index funds
First a question: within global index funds to what degree does the US exposure reflect a market cap weighted S&P fund? And then a thought... if the answer is 'largely' and you wanted to diversify that a little and reduce your exposure to the monoliths (as discussed a little in this thread) how would you do it? Here are…

Best place to save regular sum
I am looking for advice on best place to save approx 800 per month. I don't need access to it as it's towards retirement. So probably be for about 5 or 6 years before access. Is it best to use fixed rate savings or put into an ISA? Advice would be welcome thank you.

Drip feeding not so simple
I have just opened a easy access savings account with the intention of drip feeding into a regular savings account. I now realise that the savings account only allows a linked account with a current bank account (that appears to be standard for both top easy access savings accounts). I presume my only option is to set up a…

Saving/Investing for Children
Hopefully this will be a simple one! What are the implications around using a HL Junior Fund & Share account to save towards my child's future? I understand that as a parent, they can only earn £100 income before being taxed, however, I'm unsure how this affects them because I plan to put the money into accumulation units…

Interest on Investment account
I noticed that Vanguard give interest on cash held in the cash account (ie cash not invested in funds). I know it may not be much as it's not prudent to hold a large cash balance, but what I'd like to know is, does this 'gain' need to be declared as interest and therefore offset against the PSA, or does it form part of the…

18 yr old daughter - best way to invest £1000
Hi My daughter is 18. We’ve already invested 4k into a LISA but she also has £1000 which would be good to invest separately for the long term. She will want to add to this but I don’t know when and how regularly she’ll do this. I guess it would be good if she had the flexibility of not having to make payments every month.…

Halifax Bank poor advice
Last year I asked my friend to pay in a cheque to my C / account, she was told it had to be paid in in person. This was wrong and later Halifax apologized. (This only applies to cash). This year my friends debit card did not arrive and Halifax branch told her she had to order them now. I was also told this when I rang…

To LISA or not to LISA
Hopefully this thread will manage to wrangle out my slight confusion on this topic, as a colleague and I were debating last night and couldnt come to a conclusion. To give some background, we both top our pensions to reduce our taxable salaries down into the 21% lower Scottish taxable bracket. We are looking at a means to…

How to find a reliable financial advisor?
Hello. My brother is returning to the UK after working abroad for 20 years. He contacted me with a question to which I do not know the answer, so I thought I would ask here. Dividends + CGT in funds
Hi all, Am I correct in saying, that If I was to invest outside my ISA allowance for the year in a fund , and the fund made £2K in dividend payments, and £12K profit ,these gains are tax free using my dividend + CGT allowance for the year? Or do dividends count towards overall CGT ? Would it be ok to sell part of a fund at…
