Junior Stocks & Shares ISA
I am thinking of opening a S&S ISA for my 5 year old son, as he currently just has a basic childs savings account, 2% interest My question is I'm not sure what fund (or funds?) to pick to invest in? I have one myself, currently I invest in Life Strategy 100% equities Do I just do the same for him or something different?

Broker for lifestrategy funds
I'm starting from zero and want to invest each week/ month into vanguards lifestrategy. I would start at about 100 per month and maybe increase it if possible. Is there a platform/broker ideal for this? I'm confused with all the differing fees , and I notice some even have exit fees. Thanks for any tips

Child Trust Fund Worry
1 of children will be 18 this year & grandparents have been putting a substantial amount into his CTF. My worry is he will still be at school for best part of another year and has not really had to deal with money. Does anyone else have similar worries on recently matured or maturing CTFs and any ideas to safeguard (with…

Capital Gains and shares.
Hello All A couple of years ago I sold my flat..I'd paid off the mortgage and invested a sizable amount of the sale in Unit and Investment Trusts via a couple of platforms whilst I decided where I wanted to buy a property...then didn't buy a property... I already had a S and S ISA with H and L so invested in a Shares…

Stocks and Shares ISAs
My wife and I are in our late-20s and have a mortgage. Mortgage should be paid off by the time we're 32 so we are overpaying at the maximum we're allowed. The rest of our money (other than an emergency fund) is going into our stocks and shares ISAs. Reading on here some think they're really risky, but from all the research…

Investing 50-100k short term
I own my house outright and have always planned to sell this April to buy somewhere nicer, bigger, nicer area etc. However I got with my partner a year ago and will be moving into his house soon. In reality I've been unofficially living here for 5 months. I don't really want to not have money in property long term, but as…

26 years old with £35k
Hi everyone, I inherited £30k at 18 from my grandpa's passing, but haven't ever looked at it for my personal gain. I've spent and repaid myself around £15k in the past 5 years on my elderly parent's (they're 70 this year!) house repairs, which I had to fight to do - they won't accept any payment from me. I live at home,…

OakNorth - I was mislead ?!
Hello All Maybe I was silly or mislead but the OakNorth interest rate of 1.6% for 6month is not true. The last year's website shown 1.6% for 6 month as a table which I literally thought it would be getting the 1.6% for the £18750 amount over 6 month period which would be £300 but guess what ... ?? The 1.6% is based on…

Triodos global equities impact fund
My girlfriend wants to start investing to grow a proportion of her savings. I have shown her some low cost platforms and funds. However, she is looking for an ethical (primarily geared towards cutting out unsustainable businesses) fund, which I do not know much about. We went through a long list of ethical funds but a lot…

Emergency fund
One of the priorities of budgeting appears to be having an emergency fund. However if you have c.c. debt Martin suggests paying this off first instead. Quick question, if I have 0 c.c debt or pay it off each month , should I build an emergency fund in a instant savings account or just keep the credit card balance instead?

recommend an IFA?
Hi All, I'm looking to talk to an IFA about moving some money out of an investment bond. Any recommendations? I would like to talk via email if at all possible so suggestions of people that would be happy to work like that would be helpful. I'm London based if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Remorse over money lost?
Hi All, I didn't really know where to post this but thought the savings board was most relevant as mine have all but disappeared for the time being :( An opportunity came up for me to run my own business and after much (and I mean much, I don't do things on a whim) deliberating I went for it. I put £10k of my savings into…

Kids savings advice, is my plan sound?
New Year's resolution has been to sort out the kids accounts to make sure they're earning the best for them. Got a bit of a plan, is it sound? Are there better suggestions than this? So, kids are aged 13 and 10. They've got: Child trust funds, investment backed to FTSE 100 fund. Oldest has £6.5k, youngest has £3.5k Halifax…

Fund Price dictated by demand or holdings
Maybe a silly question but what are your views on what dictates the price of a fund more, it’s popularity or the holdings within it? Take Vanguard life strategy 80% as an example. I know the more money put into it increases the stake of each holding within in it and in turn demand for that stock but not at a proportional…

Investing £325k trust fund
Hi, I'm looking to invest trust funds of £325k. The funds are likely to be distributed to beneficiaries within 3 years and the trust ended. Is it possible to invest for capital growth only, for this short period, thus avoiding annual tax returns and income getting hammered by the £1k trust allowance ? If so, which type of…
