making use of the personal savings allowance
I want to make use of my annual £1000 personal savings tax allowance for 2019-20. I am going to open a one year fixed rate income bond. If I choose for the interest to be annual then obviously that won't do it because the interest will be paid after April 2020. However, if I choose monthly interest, and the interest is…

Funding Circle - increased bad debts?
Hi, Has anyone experienced a dramatic increase in both the frequency and amount of bad debts recently on Funding Circle? Normally I'd average about 7.5% return per year, but this last couple of months I've made a small loss, which defeats the object! Am I just unlucky, or is there a reason this has suddenly just started…

Complimentary fund for Lifestrategy 80
Hello, I've been saving into a Vanguard Lifestrategy 80 Acc for around 18 months now through Charles Stanley Direct. Starting with a lump sum of £12000 and then £50 a month from around 6 months ago. I'm doing this for later life, not necessarily retirement but potentially if I need some of it earlier I can. The idea though…

CSD easy way to find out how much you've contributed?
I've been using Charles Stanley Direct for about 18 months now. I put in a lump sum when I opened it and left it but at around the end of last year I started putting in £50 a month. Is there any easy way on Charles Stanley Direct that tells you how much you've deposited? The only way I've been able to work it out is…

Sharia compliant/Islamic banking

Fidelity: stay, change, or move?
I am relatively new to investing. I've read Tim Hales book on investing, and also the Ramit Sethi's book on personal finance. I have a question regarding my Fidelity Group Pension Plan. I'm not happy with its performance and was hoping for some advice on what to do: stay put, change funds, or move to SIPP? The fund is…

Tax on Savings
My wife has just realised through her wage slip that her tax code has changed. She hasn't received notification through the post. She is a low earner £13,000 per year but has a good savings pot and received £1,500 interest last year. Because of the nil rate band (1,000) and starting point (5,000) she paid no tax. However…

IFA Charges
Looking for a bit of advice, 18 months ago I transferred my cash isa, value £55K to an IFA, who invested it in Tatton Managed Balanced. Since that time the value had dropped by £1,200, however I see that the advisor, in addition to the initial advisor charge of £1,660 has been getting a steady £35/month. Other charges of…

Accumulation vs Income Units - Where am I going wrong?
Hi Folks As a long time lurker on this Forum, I know that there are several posters who really know what they are talking about and am hoping that someone could help me out here. I am aware of the difference between Acc and Inc units and that conventional wisdom is that Acc units are superior if looking for growth. However…

Savings for a newborn
Hi — I'd like to put away around £2k—£5k into an account for my newborn... somewhere it can grow over the years and they can have access to it when they're older. Where's the best place to save or invest it that is extremely low risk and has good returns? Thanks.

Fund charge (cashpot or not)
As I don't max out my ISA allowance by a long way, I've always just put the spare cash into funds. Is there any benefit to having cash in a platform pot so that charges aren't taken from the active funds? I can't see that there is in my position, but I wanted to check I'm not missing anything obvious.

Investing from abroad
Hi, I'm a UK citizen but live in Spain. Hargreaves Lansdown etc won't take you unless UK based. Are there brokers who will accept you? Have come across platforms like Degiro but they don't seem particularly good. Plus is it actually legal to invest while abroad?! Thanks in advance, Anna
