Hi all I recently received a lump sum and I now need to know where to put it to get maximum interest. I will have approx £25,000 and will be having another £400 per month for 5 years from my Fiancee as I've paid off some debts. I have opened a Lloyds savings account that her money will be going into. I will be re-opening…

Zopa - loan sales
Hello, Does anyone have any experience in selling their loans on Zopa? My partner sold her's quite easily but I have had very little success, and keep being fobbed off with various excuses - system running slow, some bad debtors etc After 1 month of trying to sell them Zopa reset the sale, so I have again requested the…

Tracing missing funds
Asking this on behalf of a friend. To cut a long story short - in August he sold £10k worth of USA via his broker TD Waterhouse (I think). He had held these shares with them since 2012 when working in the States. About 2-weeks later the money showed up on his Barclays account in the UK. 6-weeks ago he sold £50k worth of…

£10k to invest for new baby
Thanks to an exceedingly generous Grandparent, when my first child enters the world next month I will have £10k to invest on its behalf. I want to invest it for the long-term (for at least 18 years). I don't expect that we will be in a position to add to this fund over the next few years. I'd be grateful for any thoughts…

ISA or pay tax
I am loath to put money into any ISA over 1 year at the moment as interest rates are predicted to rise next year. My problem is do i go for the best 1 year rate at 1.41% or a straight instant bank saving account at 1.85% and pay tax and end up with 1.48%. I will be over the £1000 tax free allowance.

Closing an ISA and opening an new one in the same tax year
Hi all, This question has been answered a few times but I want to double check. I opened a Help to Buy ISA 10 days ago and paid £1 into it. I've changed my mind and decided I want to open a cash ISA with Nutmeg, Nutmeg doesn't allow ISA transfers unfortunately. So the option I have is to close my barclays account and open…

How much should you be saving?
I live in London, zone 2, I am 34, have a good job now (let's say income of around 120k pa) and can afford to save quite a good chunk of my money, around 25%, after all expenses and leisure. Hopefully will move forward to acquiring a house in the next years. However, I have been thinking that for someone who doesn't earn…

Can this trigger a tax return?
Hi. I was thinking of opening a NS&I guaranteed growth bond. However, when I mentioned this to a friend, she said to look forward to a letter from HMRC, as apparently if you open anything with NS&I with a sizeable amount of money this triggers a tax return. Anyone had any experience either way with this? (last time I…

Multi Account Savings
Does anyone know of any savings accounts that allow you open multiple accounts under 1 main account, for example accounts may be for Holiday, Xmas and General. So i could put say £100 in Holidays, £50 in Xmas and £25 in General each month, rather than it all going into 1 main account. I know Nationwide use to do an e-saver…

moving from TD Waterhouse to ii - very poor experience
So over a week ago I called Interactive Investor to inform them that the spelling of my name was incorrect. I then followed up with a second call and two secure email messages before they finally told me (over a week later!) I needed to send in a certified copy of my passport. I needed yet another message for them to tell…

Bonds?
Hi everyone I have read that people sometimes have a mix of equities and bonds in their portfolios. Can someone help me understand something about bonds. I know they rise and fall, but are they bought like an 'insurance' the way someone might buy gold. Gold usually increases when the stock market falls (though not always).…
