Not very interesting to anyone experienced here, nothing new in terms of information, perfectly ordinary item that might be on Money Box any week of the year, and not "wading" into anything as far as I can see, just balanced reporting. Might just be worthwhile for someone who knows absolutely nothing about investing.

The regulars on here are reasonably knowledgeable, but there are also many relative neophytes who ask very basic questions and the post was mostly for their benefit.

Some hate-fuelled right-wing tabloids would contend that balanced reporting from the BBC should be regarded as something new ;)

Just the BBC coverage of the Royal family shows they are far from left wing by international standards.
But Britain has been getting steadily more right wing over the last 30 years or so, and I have no doubt they are left wing by Daily Mail standards.

More likely they want the BBC closed down as a competitor as does the Murdock press. More subtle than the mail, the Sunday Times has some sort of knock against the BBC once or twice each edition.

It won't be missed until it's gone.

I have a close Tory friend who refuses to watch Question Time when the Conservatives are in power but loves the program when Labour are in office!

Well the media is owned by the wealthiest 1% who would be worse off under a less right wing Government. So they try to convince the other 99% they would be worse off too :D

Yes, and many people do not.

Rod Liddle, who was a Labour party member but I believe he no longer is due to Corbyn, states that the BBC has a distinct right on bias, and a slightly left of centre agenda. IIRC he has stated that they perceive themselves are neutral, but they have a tendency to see their 'decent values' as the norm. I heard Martha Carney state that the day after the Blair landslide election victory, the corridors of the BBC were full of empty champagne bottles outside the doors of the senior figures.

My own view is that the BBC has a slight bias towards the left, albeit with a desire for neutrality, and a strong bias towards political correctness. But it's a very odd culture. For example, how often do you hear Northern accents among 'serious' presenters e.g. on the news? Or Devon, or Bristol, or Norfolk? I can think of one recent example, Chris Mason. And yet it is fine to have RP, posh Scots (James Naughtie), posh private school (Mishal Hussain), and posh West Indies. Look at the Archers, all successful characters speak RP, the more regional the accent, the thicker and more dishonest the character!

Thatcher had castrated the BBC because she never forgave them for her questioning over the Belgrano. So it was in hope to see the back of Thatcherism, than happiness to see Blair.
