Yorkshire BS ex-Egg Account
Notification received yesterday that my ex-Egg account will be folded into the Yorkshire Building Society Web Saver brand on 09 January 2017. According to the factsheet cheque deposits will no longer be allowed. I assume the old Egg prepaid paying-in envelopes will no longer be able to be used after that date which is a…

£11000 Pa & £5000 dividends-No Earned Income?
Recently taken VR & for now intend to live off my investments until receipt of Pension. Am I correct in saying if I have no earned income in theory I could receive £16000 in share dividends without paying tax? ie utilising my personal allowance PLUS the £5000 dividend allowance.

Mortgages vs Savings question
Hi all - could someone please explain this: Apparently, if you have a 1% interest rate on your mortgage then you would need a savings interest rate of 1.3% in order to make it more worthwhile saving than paying off the mortgage. Why doesn't a 1% savings interest rate income not cancel out a 1% mortgage interest cost? Why…

£50,000 windfall ..... What to do ????
Hi we have £50,000 and want to invest the money , we don't need all of it yet so could invest half of it for up to 5 years . We each have an isa but have not added to it this year ( we each have an easy access with low interest on it ) think it's post office isa. Any ideas as it's just in my bank and not getting a penny of…

Are you concerned by the current investing climate?
I'm a newbie investor so am not overly experienced. I decided to invest with a simple portfolio - VWRD 70% and SAAA 30%. I keep on reading articles in the press that we're due for a big crash and that this isn't a good time to be investing. With the above portfolio I'm pretty much in it for the long term but was wondering…

Amending SO for BOS/Halifax Savers
Has anyone amended the SO for these Savers? BoS website seemed to indicate Regular Saver SO was fixed for term and Halifax Monthly Saver would accept an additional top-up in the month to your normal SO. I'm at the max 250 pm for both but may require option to reduce (min is 25). Thanks.

£5k windfall - what shall I do with it?
Advice would be greatly appreciated…… Credit: I have just inherited £5k. I have £1k credit in my current account. Debit: I have £3,500 on a long term no interest credit card, rate expires in 4 months. Before my windfall I planned to ‘tart’ it to another long term no interest credit card. I have £1,800 on another long term…

Post Office Online Saver
I recently tried to close a Post Office Online Saver account after the bonus period came to an end. To do this you have to write a letter - you cannot do it online. A few days after I posted the letter I received a reply to the effect that they were unable to close the account as the account number provided was incorrect.…

Using Current Accounts for saving
Hello I had a Regular Saver that had 6% interest. I opened up two current accounts to get high interest or a reward. Both TSB and Halifax have their interest or rewards reducing in 2017. I wonder if Tesco Bank would be a good alternative. I have heard The Bank of Scotland is at the bottom of the banking league table. What…

What should we do with our money?
We have been procrastinating for far too long over how to invest our money which has ended up with us doing absolutely nothing with it. I am keen to do something so that we don't continue in this way for another couple of years! We seem to be attracted to more 'interactive' opportunities such as property, peer to peer…

Capital gains tax
Hi, I need to transfer some shares to my wife so that we can use her annual exemption and basic rate tax. The gain will crystallise in this tax year and my wife is a basic rate tax payer. I really just want to check my understanding. If I assess her 16/17 income (which is straight forward and only PAYE and ISA income) I…

Active Funds or Passive for my ISA investments
I read an article from The Telegraph today and it stated that "figures from S&P ratings agency showed that 86pc of 'actively managed' UK Equity Funds have failed to beat the S&P UK BMI index, a measure of stock market returns equivalent to the FTSE All Share index"! These include Star Managers such as Neil Woodford from CF…

Too good to be true?
Hi all Sorry if I'm being hopelessly naive here ... this was a link on another site I was browsing. Had a quick look and sounds brilliant, but far too good to be true ... especially seeing as it gives you a countdown to opt in but this is reset to twelve minutes if you paste the link into another browser ... I've had a…

HL Charges
During the whole RDR and frequent platform prices changes a while ago I opted to move an ISA account from HL to TD Direct and re-invest in ITs (ETFs later) thereby negating ongoing platform charges. The OH has a SIPP with HL (OIECs) and at the time I investigated the option of moving the SIPP away from HL also (due to…

Halifax Reward to BoS Vantage
Now that Halifax has decided to cut the reward from £5 to £3 in Feb 17 would there be any problem going through the switch process to Vantage. Also is the max 5% on £5k limited to a year. Are there any incentives at the moment to switch to Vantage?
