Now is the time?
Surely with all time low interest rates NOW is the time to invest in a property in Spain?... I'm retired now and I'm thinking of buying a place on one of the Costas for around 100k.. I will use it to escape the english winters and enjoy it much more than having the money earning next to nothing in some bank here. I can't…

Interest gained on a cash ISA paid in May?
Hi guys, just a quick question, I noticed this last year in that the interest for 2013/2014 was only paid into my account on May 2014. Is this always the case? I ask as I wish to transfer my cash ISA to a S&S ISA, however I'm concerned that if I start the transfer now, I'll lose out on the interest gained or the interest…

First direct £!00 incentive
Has the terms and conditions of the offer changed? It appears that the incentive doesn't require two direct debit switches from an old account any longer and a £1000 payment at any point within 3 months of account opening to avail of it? The terms and conditions seem long winded, anyone able to confirm? Thanks

Is this the best thing for my savings?
I currently have a Barclays current account and about £5000 in ISA's. I've just opened a TSB classic plus account a few weeks ago, using the full £2000, taking £500 out one day and putting it in the next day of the month. I planned on opening a new account just for the interest, that I plan on taking out the first of each…

Addicted to checking my S&S ISA
This is going to sound so stupid but I think I'm addicted to checking the status of it... Not for fear of losing money but just curiosity as to how it's performing. Did it go up and by how much? Did it go down? Etc I try to refrain from checking it everyday and it's a long term ISA so it makes no sense to keep checking it.…

Assigning a savings bond
Help - in a pickle My mom was sure she had found the ideal place to spend her days, she is 83. She had sold her old house, rented a little bungalow and put most of the cash in a 5 year savings bond - secure in the knowledge that she would be happy with the interest and have enough to live off in her other account. Now an…

Is it possible to make 4% interest on my savings?
I'm trying to find a way of consistently making a minimum 4% yearly interest on my savings and possibly higher. My wife and I have savings of approx £470k. I am a private renter with a good job, am married with kids. I am paying into a pension and I can also save approx £5k per year from my after tax income after all…

Just beginning with saving/investing
Just discovered this board and finding it very interesting. I've got a cash ISA with about 4k in it. I can add about £200 a month to it if I stop spending frivolously which after reading a bit of the Mr Mustache site I'm quite keen to do. Bit of other background I have a BTL property that's ticking along nicely. Has 19…

And the award for stupid investment product of the century goes to...
In summary: A French life insurer sold a product in the 80s which allowed investors to trade today at last week's prices. A nice perk then, in the days when price information was slow to propagate (but still an absurdly stupid thing to offer). Today, with information at your fingertips, it's a magic money making machine.…

Shares
Hi. I have shares which I need to sell. Where is the best place to do that. I am a complete luddite and attempted to sell them online without any luck. The phone calls are costing a fortune and take 5 mins before it connects. I then get told I am 6 0r 7 in the queue. This could cost the price of the shares alone in just…

Do I add to current ISA or need a new one for 2015/2016
Hi all I've got £15,000 (plus interest earned) in a Cash ISA I opened last year. Now as I understand it, the limit for 2015/16 is £15,240. Does that mean: 1) I can invest and additional £240 into my current ISA (is it the full £240 or is £15240 - my current balance (with interest) to take it up to £15,240) or 2) Do I need…

Evaluating an Initial IFA Meeting
I sat in on a meeting with my parents and an IFA, as I am more financially savvy than they are, and I just wanted to listen to the advice they were being given and check that it wasn't very misleading or anything. The company the IFA works for is a small, independently owned financial advisory company and the firm seems to…

Personal Injury Trust - Below Inflation!
Hi There, Last year I received a personal injury pay out for a knee injury sustained when I was 15 (I'm 21 now). I put the money into a personal injury trust (at the cost of £675) as I am a university student (living with a partner) who also receives (a small amount) of housing benefit. Money is very tight in our…

Child Trust Fund - Confused or MSE Error?

Acc/Inc fund in ISA or outside
Hi, I already have an ISA fully subscribed, so I am looking at opening another account to have investment funds outside of an ISA. I am currently thinking that, given that capital gains are not taxed below a certain threshold, I would be better off having accumulation funds outside of an ISA (so that I can get some of the…
