Fund Transfers - Name and shame - or praise
I am getting very frustrated at the length of time it has taken to transfer funds from one fund 'supermarket' to another. In my case it is from Hargreaves Lansdown to Interactive Investor and there are other threads where these are being discussed. I am being told the industry is swamped. I wonder if we can establish if…

Where do banks get their money from?
Has anybody ever seen a male and a female pound (dollar, Frank, Yen, Krugerrand, Deutschmark) get together in a bank vault and produce a little forty pence? Or put it another way; is there a really stupid bank manage who, for every two pounds he is given, gives back two pounds forty? The answer in Tellytubby Land is that…

Lloyds Young Savers paying 0.5% APR
I noticed my younglings savings account was paying 0.5% interest and not the 3% the bank staff told me. It is an older account but it would appear older accounts are penalised with this below inflation interest rate. Not exactly encouraging a youngster to save, infact he is losing money!! Bank being quite evasive, would…

Early withdrawal penalties & tax
I wanted to withdraw the full amount from my AA 2 year fixed rate savings account and, as the penalty is 180 day's interest, I waited 180 days before writing to close the account. I was horrified to find it cost me 180 days interest PLUS 20% tax on the interest. I never received the interest as income, so I queried this…

Effect of fluctuating currencies on overseas investment?
I've been investing for some years, but very rarely in US stocks. I should know the answer to this question, but every time I try to work it out, I find it confusing. What is the impact of a fluctuating exchange rate in terms of timing and currency quoted? Just for example, say I wanted to buy an ETF focusing on US…
