taking the children's savings.
My children have had money saved by the Grandparents on their behalf for many years. I have asked the Grandparents to put the money in CTF and Junior ISA accounts that I have already set up for each child as I think the money is in a low paying HSBC children's account . They mentioned it was earning 2% several years ago.…

CGT on transfer of Funds from HL
I believe transfer of funds from Dirty to Clean versions does not represent a disposal for CGT purposes. Does anyone know if you could sell a "dirty" fund in HL transfer the cash - to say Charles Stanley and then repurchase as a clean version without it being counted as a disposal? I seem to remember some rule about it not…

Investing for adult son in Canada?
Hi, I have a grown up son living in Canada, still single, and am looking for suggestions or alternatives to sending out money for Christmas and birthday presents. He doesn't need the cash, which would just lie in his bank account, not earning very much. He would also have additional cash that he could use to better effect…

Alternatives to Hargreaves Lansdown?
I know there are several discussions about the new HL charges, and in among them various alternative platforms are mentioned. Leaving HL would be a wrench but I will do so in order to save hundreds of pounds a year. The interview with Danny Cox on R4 gave me no confidence at all. Someone who speaks as quickly and as…

TDW - Can I move some unused cash into another shares ISA
Hi I have a shares ISA with TDDirect Investing and have some cash (about £18k) in there that I haven't yet used to buy shares. Is it possible to ask TDDirect to transfer this cash to another shares ISA I hold with a different provider (keeping it within the shares ISA framework). The reason I want to do this is that the…

savings account - no minimum deposit
I'd like to setup a joint savings account for myself and my OH. We want to treat it as an account that we pay random amounts of money into as and when we can afford to - a bit like an online piggy bank. So it needs to be one that has no minimum monthly deposit. Naturally, the higher the interest rate, the better. Can…

Ideas for a Teenager saving.
My 15 year old is wondering what the options are for an ISA or savings account. I would prefer that they place it were it can stay for 3-5 years as I feel this would be the best option for them. I have checked out the kids saving advise on this site but it's aimed at infants, juniors or early teens, they all take the child…

Peer to Peer Syndicate
I have been for a months now using funding circle on a learning curve, this has now attracted a few friends and work mates to start showing an interest in the idea. The restricted amount of extra cash they have spare and or the amount they are prepared to invest has lead to the idea of a peer to peer lending syndicate…

List of funds available via Alliance Trust & other platforms?
I have my SIPP and ISA with Hargreaves Lansdown, and am looking at the potential cost savings of a full or partial move to another platform. My main problem is the relatively limited choice of funds available from other platforms. Most of my chosen investments are not available from Charles Stanley and Cavendish Online for…

Post Office or Sainsbury's
I'm looking at saving some money for 2 years and found the Post Office Online "Bond" and the Sainsbury's Online account. Although the Post Office offers a better interest rate than Sainsbury's the reviews for the Post Office aren't that good and reviews seem to be better for Sainsbury's. I've searched on the MSE website…

Buying investment trusts directly
I have some money to invest, and a bit of research tells me investment trusts seem to be the best thing in my situation. Many of these companies allow investment directly via their websites. It seems to me this would be a better (i.e. cheaper) option than going via a funds platform such as Hargreaves Lansdowne. Is this…

Hargreaves Lansdown charges.
Their is something I am not fully understanding with Hargreaves Lansdown's new charges, if I stay in the old funds will I still have to pay the 0.45% charge. Even with funds that actually give me no loyalty bonus. Because this would come to £2250 a year on my £50000 holding which seems a lot to me. Any ideas.
