getting into investments
I'm looking to get into investments. The current ISA rates are not worth much with 2.x % at barclays (my bank). I have some spare cash spread across 2 accounts (not isas) where I get just over £1 a month on interest. I could put it all in one of the ISAs but I think (& hope) I can probably get a better return on an…

Using HL performance charts
I am reviewing the portfolio of funds that I hold with Hargreaves and Lansdown, particularly comparing the performance of actively managed funds versus trackers. Do the performance charts take into account the annual charge on the fund, so that you can easily compare a low charging tracker with a high charging active fund?

FSCS Share Portfolio protection?
Just out of general curiosity, where does one stand if say someone like H-L went bust (unlikely, I know:eek:) and one had a portfolio of shares with them beyond the £85,000 protection threshold? Or does this £85,000 threshold even apply to shares held by H-L type organisations?

Gold crashes, FTSE plateaus
http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/after-12-years-of-boom-gold-prices-bust-175201756.html Suddenly cash ISAs don't look so bad.....Perhaps a rocky period ahead for investments though it should even itself out over time.

ETFs & TIPS
I want defensive investments in my Stocks and Shares ISA. I'm tempted by TIPS, the US equivalent of our Index-Linked Gilts. I assume that the way to hold them is as an ETF. Has anyone any observations to make e.g. suggesting a particular ETF, commenting on the tax treatment, or whatever?

Started My Investments!
Well, I have now broken through to the other side! I have left the cosy confines of cash in bank and have now set up my Investments (funds and some shares) with H&L! I have started the funds off and will contribute over time to hopefully to take advantage of pound cost averaging. Alas though the FTSE dropped today. It must…

Unclaimed AVIVA shares
My mum got a letter through saying she has unclaimed AVIVA shares. She can get this paid out by doing A/B/C (the usual - post, email, website etc). So she follows the instruction & emails them. No response. Anyone here received such a letter & got their money back?

Is it good to leave old ISA's alone or transfer them to somewhere else ?
I was puzzled when watching the MMT's programme on ISA's, why it was suggested it would be better to leave OLD ISA's where they were. Can anyone tell me why please ? I would have thought it would have been better to put them somewhere with a higher interest rate ?. There must be a reason ?

Financial Advisers.
Not sure where to put this, so apologies if you think this is the wrong place. About 4 years ago we got a financial adviser to put some of our affairs in order, which he did and got commission from those products. He then suggested we pay a monthly fee to his company as soon products wouldn't be commission based so his…

effective way to earn the most interest
Hi. I was hoping someone could help me decide the pros and cons of this plan. I am a basic tax payer. I intend to dripfeed 250/month into a regular saver account with 4% interest (before tax) As I need 2000 at easy access I will keep that much in an instant access account. But anything above this I will move to my isa…
