Saving for old(er) age
Can anyone help. I'm 68 next birthday. I want to save £25.00 per month to provide a cushion for my wife when I bite the dust. I recently gave up working for a well-known supermarket chain. I had contributed to their pension plan for 18 months or so. Would it be an efficient way to save by continuing to contribute to this…

£50k 'life savings'...where to
Hi folks....newbie-type questions. I only have an ISA (now expired) & conventional bank accounts, but realise with the poor interest rates they are hardly worth having. I have approx £50k I can invest, & probably won't need access to it in the next year. I don't have a Lawyer, nor have I dealt with any financial advisor.…

Pondering the Long Term Future of Fixed Term Deposits ...
Having come through the Iceland nightmare - and thankful for not having lost any of my capital - VERY thankful indeed - I last year split up all of those resources up into an assortment of £85,000 bundles in five year fixed term deposits (as then recommended by this board) to let them rest over time. I'm glad I did now as…

Complicated inheritance situation
My mother-in-law recently passed away and we've just received a copy of the will. My husband is one of 4 children and my mother-in-law owned 2 properties. Yorkshire 1 Year Fixed Rate Bond Ending
Just a heads up for those who may be interested, the 1 Year Fixed Rate E-Bond, fixed until 31/7/2013, is being pulled today and the last day for payments into the account is next Wednesday. RBS Green Index Bond
I have recently had a three year, fixed term, RBS Green Index investment mature. When I took out the investment, at the advice of an RBS advisor, I was told that, although returns could not be guaranteed, the interest rate paid, at the end of the investment period, would be linked to the improvement in the RBS Green Index,…

Tax on possible inheritance? - Please help?
Not sure if this is in the correct forum but here goes.... My Mother in law is due to inherit a fairly large sum of money (although at this stage we have no idea exactly how much)!! Saving in the UK
I live abroad but have money in my Natwest account. It seems that because I don't have a UK address that the best savings rate I can get with them is 0.1%. Tried Ing but they aren't interested in taking my money because I don't reside in the UK. Can anyone suggest financial institutions that don't put up such a barrier.

Inheritance Tax on Joint Accounts
My mum and I have a joint account. I understand that upon her death I will have to pay inheritance tax on half the balance. Is that correct? Also, as recently I have spent a considerable sum from that joint account, (first moving it into my account to make my transaction easier) will that spent amount be taken into account…

Work share scheme question
Hi, Cards on the table, I don't really know much about shares. But when the opportunity to join my work share scheme came up I grabbed it, and it's been doing quite well. Just had a letter saying the parent company are restructuring the share scheme and by my calculations i'll lose about £320 in shares. To sweeten this…

Forecast of lower inflation
Ernst and Young forecast (using same model as Treasury if that is a recommendation! :) ) says growth zero this year, minus in 1st half balanced by tiny growth in 2nd half. Inflation is predicted for 1.7% by end of year. What do you think this means for saving rates? - lower still?

Where to borrow, where to invest - help needed
I have just over £2,000 in a savings account. I'm about to become a full-time university student and will receive £3,400 a year (in three installments a year) for the next three years. So my two-pronged question is: Who shall I open a student account with and how should I invest the overdfraft/loan/£2k savings? My parents…
