Help me choose a savings account for small amounts over long period
I am putting £4 a month aside for my nephews' 18th birthdays, when I will give them each £400, so it's nice and fair and a round figure. One will be in 2028, the other in 2029!! So I am looking for a very specific type of savings account. I have no need to access it for many years, but I want to make a very small monthly…

FSCS 85K Protection Halifax & Lloyds TSB
Both part of the same banking group but currently both have separate £85,000 FSCS protection so you can have up to £170,000 in the two and are covered. Are there any plans to change this at anytime in the future as they are both part of Lloyds Banking Group?

What should I do with the money meanwhile? I assume a cash ISA. Do I inform my solicitor of this or does the money…

Unreliable Financial Advisor
I recently invested some money with a "reputable" financial advisor. He invested my savings and consolidated all my pensions into Templeton Bric. At the time of taking this out I didn't realise how high risk the fund was and basically, although it made alot of money in the first year or so it has now lost quite a lot.…

Shares transfer
Hi all. I had some shares in a share save account at Barclays registrars that I no longer had access to (forgotten password etc) so I decided to transfer to my own stockbrokers account so I could sell when I wanted to as I used this account frequently. I requested the relevant forms from registrars and waited. The forms…

Shareview -no certificate in envelope they received!
I'm just doing my research before the proverbial hits the fan! I sold my shares online through the Shareview website. I then posted the paper certificate along with a form they had asked me to sign by recorded delivery. A few days later, I received a call from Shareview confirming receipt of the form they had asked me to…

Any suggestions on what to do with my savings?
I have a bankruptcy on my credit file so I'm limited to the kind of bank account I can open. Basically I'm with Natwest and have an e-ISA and e-savings account. I have around £9000 in the ISA and I'm not allowed to make any more deposits this tax year. I only get 1% interest on the e-savings account so I'm trying to find…

Investing money for children
My younger children have inherited a five figure sum each as a result of an inheritance. I am at a loss as to what's best to do with the money for them. Contracted out of SERPS
I was "sold" the idea of contracting out of SERPS in the early 1990's when I was in my early twenties by someone who was working for General Portfolio (I think). I somewhat naively agreed (he was a friend working on commission). I have no paperwork about it and nothing has been sent to me since I ticked the box on a form.…

RDR and qualifications
Hi, I am reading a lot in the press and the internet about RDR and the fact financial advisors need to be qualified for next year. So I was wondering. Tax and charges on an investment trust?
Hi, Newbie question! I'm trying to calculate how much a £91,000 lump sum put in an investment trust that tracks the market would be worth over time. And I'm a bit lost! Compound interest is easy enough to calculate but I really don't understand how to assess how much I'd lose to taxes and charges. I know charges differ but…
