Where to borrow, where to invest - help needed

I have just over £2,000 in a savings account.

I'm about to become a full-time university student and will receive £3,400 a year (in three installments a year) for the next three years.

So my two-pronged question is: Who shall I open a student account with and how should I invest the overdfraft/loan/£2k savings?

My parents pay my monthly rent and I can use some of the overdraft/loan/£2k savings to pay bills/live on.

Natwest offers a railcard which I will use to get to and from
Uni, but maybe the others work out as better value.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

NatWest's railcard is one of the best student account perks.

If you are going to take a 'free' overdraft and put it in a savings account for interest then you will need to keep an exceptionally close eye on your account. If you accidentally slip over the limit charges could easily amount to more than the savings interest earned - and don't expect any sympathy.
