No Hassle Savings
Given the current EU euro zone crises is it more prudent to avoid investing savings with Spanish Banks for example. I know there is government protection up to £85,000 but I can imagine it would be a long drawn-out process to recover ones funds in an event that forced such a Bank to close.

first direct 8% RS
Planning to open this, but would prefer to start it early next month. Is there a chance it could be withdrawn before then? Does the opening date set the date you have to pay in each month? And does it only allow one payment in per month? When opened will they automatically transfer the first payment from my 1st Account? Or…

Claiming tax back on savings interest
Can you please help settle an argument. A 3yr fixed rate bond has the annual interest accumulated. Does the bond owner apply to have each years interest paid back from the taxman or does he have to wait until the bond matures and then claim it back in one go. The person in question prefers to fill in a S.A. form rather…

investing in green oil
When my financial advisor came to see me yesterday, at the close of discussions, he mentioned the thought of investing in Green Oil. He stressed that as a financial advisor, he wasn't recommending this and wasn't allowed to anyway. He was mentioning it in case I was interested because "with his other hat on", he was…

Coventry Poppy Online Saver (2)
Can't find this mentioned anywhere but the Coventry Poppy Saver (2) says in the T&Cs that you can only have one Poppy Saver at any time. On my initial one the bonus expires next June so I thought I'd open this one as well where the bonus expires next December. After noticing this I've closed version 1 and moved the balance…

Halifax Fixed Savings T&Cs Misleading and Inaccurate
Recently my Halifax Fixed 2 year Web Saver account matured. I received a maturity letter which gave me the option to reinvest the capital into a new Fixed Online Saver account. I filled in the form, but as I mislaid the envelope and no return address was on the form or accompanying letter, I took the form to my local…

Halifax ISA interest payment date confusing me
Hi, I wrote to Halifax asking for some dates on which my interest would be paid. They've kindly written back to me but I don't understand their letter. I am going to phone them but thought I'd ask here too, to see if anyone understands their letter. It relates to Halifax ISA Direct Reward Issue 4 earning 3% interest and…

Are these Credit unions trustworthy (8% rate)
Anyone saved with a credit union? According to a site i visited they are offering upto 8%. They seem to be regulated by the FSCS , so should be covered for £85K, although (don't know why) i wouldn't trust them with that much, a couple of thousand perhaps. http://www.findyourcreditunion.co.uk/about

I am a young widow, my husband's job left a lump sum (enough for a small property to let out) or to invest in bonds. I have no experience in the rental market, but have been trying to work out the net yields of each possibility. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts they could share with me. all money is precious, but…
