All good to know, but how do you access this sort of stuff as it is reported? Hemscott used to have a sort of rolling feed that told you all this but not any more, if there isnt one good source are there two or three that between them more or less cover the news as it rolls out? For free that is and that you can look at very speedily without work suffering as a result!!

I find http://www.investegate.co.uk/Index.aspx handy for company announcements. Just bang in the ticker in which you are interested.
Dunno what time they actually appeared on there but Compass' final results are shown there as being 07:00, which would have been the time they were released.

thanks but this isnt quite what I had in mind? Does anyone remember the Hemscott service. It included news as it came out that can affect the market, brokers upgrades, downgrades, plus every couple of hours an overview of the market. It wasnt just a list of company announcements
Perhaps no such service exists now it was very useful, but for a few years have not done any investing so didnt track its demise
