The DON'T buy gold thread
Fed up with reading countless threads about buying gold. Without naming the Numpty on here who keeps punting buy, buy, buy gold. I thought I would post the opposite. My IFA of 30yrs, My fund manager who I have more faith in than a certain Numpty on here and his entourage who keep prostituting the yellow metal are going…

Sainsbury's saver
Hi all, Any news back from Sainsbury's Bank about whether withdrawal of cash in the first year will affect the interest for the whole year (e.g. it's backdated). I was reading about the rate dropping to 1.25% if you make a withdrawal but just wanted to claify on the backdating part. Thank you!

ISAs
Can someone do the calculation for me? What is the AER if you are saving £300 per month at 7% fixed for a year taking into account it takes the full 12 months to get up to the ISA limit of £3,600? Is it still greater than taking, say, a 3% fixed (if I can get one) for the whole £3,600 on 6th April? I am not taking into…

Penny Shares
God I feel ill! In 1998 I (and my now ex hubby), bought 5000 shares in Emerald Energy at 2 1/4p each, cost us about £120 in total with commission, we split up in Jan 2000, and as we were both skint sold them for a loss. Shares now worth 420p each (21k!, oh what fools we are when we are young!). Does anyone know where you…

How to buy gold (and sell it later without losses)
Since British Pound is going to become weaker I am thinking about safe heaven for my savings. One of the options is gold (and not gold derivatives!). Who could describe how to buy (and later sell) gold coins or gold species without overpaying too much to bank? I have not found anything on moneysupermarket.com about this

Can I stop IFA commission?
My IFA invested my portfolio with Transact a few years ago. Despite at least three requests to him for updates over the last 6 months (just generally asking how he sees the future) I haven't received the courtesy of a reply. I realise that if I act out of haste and withdraw all monies then I would suffer because I've…

Genuine investment...or scam?
Has anyone heard of Maxnet? I did a google search for tax free investments and they came up. It seems to be some kind of spread betting scheme, you sign over a lump sum of £1000 or so and they use a pooled fund to place bets. The profits they claim seem impressive, and tax free! But is it all too good to be true?
