Birmingham Midshires

How long does it take for them to process my cheque and open my internet bond? It has been more than 2 weeks and they say they are still checking through my ID documents.

I've got several accounts with them. When I opened the last one there was about 10 days lapse between me sending the cheque and them opening the account.
I complained and they back dated the account to around the date cheque was sent.

It did take a while for the documentation to reach me

Thanks and I am also waiting for my ID documents.
  • I opened an account with BM last year and the 10 day clearance was stated in the T&C's. But it seems that complaining does paid off some of the time...well done.

I didn't think to raise the question about the unusually lengthy 10 days, but wish I had now!

I have now contacted the office of the MD and it says they should get back in 5 working days but I am a bit worried as the system did not give me an aknowledgement.

Took too long for me, I won't open another with them. To make matters worse they paid my cheque into esaver and I had to phone them to move it to bond.

By contrast opening a bond with Chelsea wasdone within minutes in a branch (existing account holder)

Coventry BS is a lot better and it pays .25% more when I opened the bond.

Last time I phoned they were a bit annoyed. It seems they are one of the most slowest banks in checking ID and verifying it. With a attuitude like that I am surprised they are still in busniess.

I second that about the Coventry they are really rapid.

Birmingham Midshires are slow. We have accounts (bonds) with Saga for whom Birmingham Midshires are their savings provider. I guess the applications to Saga must actually go Birmingham Midshires as people seem to have similar problems with ID and cheque clearance times see

I have got it resolved now as they phoned to say they were really busy and could not do it quicker. I could not be bothered to ask them what keeps them from doing a simple ID cheque and other stuff for so long when some can do it in less then a week. They were quick when they wanted the money it is just cashing it that takes sometime.

How long before I contact them again as they contacted me on Wednesday afternoon my documents have not come yet. I am not worried about the cheque as it takes 3 days to clear.

Nigel must be having a laugh at the customers.
