Nationwide - who are they working for
All the banks are dropping their rates. They seem to be acting together. So much for competition. A cartel perhaps? Anyway, the Nationwide seemed to be relatively unaffected by exposure to sub prime bonds, and were seen as one of the safer banks when others were going to the wall. I'm sure I read that they took a lot of…

Am I missing something or is it just not worth the effort?
I was going to open three regular savings accounts that pay a fixed rate of 6% for a year. One allowed you to deposit £500 a month, the other two £250 a month. I used the calculator here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/best-regular-savings-accounts#calculator to do the sums, and it turns out that the net increase…

Children's savings
My FIL has left £500 to both of my children and our initial thoughts were to deposit it in their baby bonds/ savings plans for the future. But each child has a different set up: 7yo - Children's Mutual Baby Bond (with Profits) £25 a month (not a CTF) - I can't work out if I can/ should pay the oldest's into the Baby Bond.…

Anywhere better than Egg Money?
Well, my non-fixed-rate savings accounts are now pathetic (halifax down from 5% to 1.16%, B&B down from 6.5% to 3.4%), but Egg Money still pays 4% on positive balances. Any reason not to transfer cash there?

Regular Savers & Tax Allowance

How little interest? Yorkshire Bldg Soc Saver
My passbook for the Regular Saver was updated today. This started out at 7% variable for 1 year. I'm shocked to see that after putting in £10 each month, plus £50 for one of the months, after 1 year my passbook entries say: I gained only £2.98 bonus interest (think this is the 2% bonus if funds are left untouched), then…

The end is nigh for Premium Bonds?
With David Cameron scrapping tax on savings, will this be the end for Premium Bonds? (The tax benefit was the main reason that rich people liked them). GG
