Savings for 16 year olds
Hi, Could anyone recommend the best savings accounts at the moment for 16's and above? My boy does not pay tax, and has savings to transfer, but will also have saturday job that he will save. Can I keep the ones he has (Halifax and Nationwide) but just fill in R85s? Should he go for one that has a cash card? ( he doesn't…

£40k to invest short term - ideas please
Hi I'm about to inherit £40,000 which I'd like use to pay a big chunk off my mortgage but I'm tied into a fixed rate and there is a penalty of £2k+ if I repay before May 09 (and I've already paid off 10% this year which is the permitted max). Any ideas about what to do with it until then? (Or would it pay me to pay it off…

What exactly are BACS & CHAPS payments?
Hello. I'd welcome a little advice... I've been asked to make a BACS payment. Is this the same as setting up a payee within your account so you can make one-off or regular payments? What's the difference between BACS and CHAPS? Thank you in advance. BG

Money unsafe in saga and birmingham midshires
I have money invested in 1 year bonds with saga and birmingham midshires. I am therefore unsafe as they both are in the same group and only £35,000 would be covered in case of disaster. I wrote to saga explaining that this was not made clear to me when I opened the account and they closed my account and sent me a cheque by…

Invesco Perpetual Monthly Plus
I am going to invest £2000 in Blackrock Absolute UK Alpha and want to put £3000 in ISA altogether so am looking for another fund. Not high or even highish risk right now as I am a novice-until now I have limited myself to cash ISAs. I have been reading H_L comment on Invesco Perpetual Monthly Inc Plus and wondered whether…

Blackrock UK Absolute Alpha
I was thinking of investing in a stocks and shares ISA this year for first time and am considering the fund Blackrock Absolute Uk Alpha. However I dont understand why the selling and buying price are so different as normally they seem to be the same with most funds. Is it something to do with the type of fund or is it that…

Are S&S really so bad in the current finicial climate?
I read a lot of threads on here which say, "no, no, don't invest in the stock market, look at the credit crisis and share prices !" Don't get me wrong, I'm no expert but I do read a lot and listen to a lot of opinions on the current state of the financial world and it seems to me now is exactly the right time to buy…

Transferred ISA funds do i need to cancel ?
I've just setup a new ISA for this tax year and transferred the amount from my previous ISA from last financial year. Do I need to cancel my old ISA from last year. I'm fairly new to ISA's and not sure if when you empty it its automatically cancelled or I need to write to them as it will be kept open.

£5000+ short term savings
I am getting divorced and need to know where it would be best to put £5000 to £6000 with easy access. This is due to the sale of a car which will be split as assets. Most of this would be withdrawn within 2 to 3 months. Any info would be much appreciated. John

Is there a better way for me to save?
I currently have 6.5k in an ISA at 6.25% and have maxed out my yearly allowance, for 3 tax years including this one I will be getting 4.6k, in student loans and grants for uni. I'm planning to put that in one of the 6.5% savings accounts (I don't pay tax). But I was wondering if there is any other type of…

I'm furious with West Brom BS!
This month I've had to spend quite a lot of money with bills and car maintenance. So I contacted the West Bromwich Building Society by email last Monday and asked them to transfer £2000 from my Easy Access Star Savings account in to my Alliance & Leicester Current Account. A few days later I telephoned the West Brom and…

Alliance Leicester cannot transfer online saver to esaver
I noticed that alliance leicester reduced the interest on their online saver so I opened up an esaver which has a hight rate. Problem is they will not let me transfer money directly from my old online saver to the esaver. Seems pretty ridiculous. Does anyone know if there is a way that this can be achieved.

Quick interest rate question
Hi I want to put some savings away for a 6 month term. I am unsure as to whether an ISA or a Fixed Rate would be best due to the tax I will have to pay in the fixed rate account. ISA - 5.89% (monthly interest) Fixed Rate - 6.65% (monthly interest) Obviously, the fixed rate has the higher interest but I will get charged…

Advice needed about Barclays BACS transfer
Hello, First post and it's a question (at least it's not about Iceland). Does anyone know if it's free to send money via BACS from my Barclays current account to my new Kaupthing account ? My Barclays account isn't online so I'll have to do it over the counter. Another (possibly stupid) question. Is it pronounced "backs"…

Should I move my savings??
I've got 90k in savings in a high interest account. Is it best to keep it all together or split it up into different banks. I'm worried about the banks going bust. I also have to think about the fact that if I do move it I end up losing a month's interest. Any advice on this matter greatly appreciated.
