best childrens' savings accounts?
Anyone out there have recommendations - my kids are only 7 but starting to accumulate significant amounts of cash (well, relatively speaking at least!) from birthdays, Xmas, tooth fairy etc and rather than having it sit around in their purses as they don't seem to want to spend much of it yet, I want to look into instant…

Savings accounts for schools and charities
Hi, I've trawled the websites for best buy savings accounts - but I can't find anywhere that advises me for the best buy for a registered charity - I'm on the PTA of my sons junior school. Obviously this sort of account needs two signatories - so the typical web based account won't work (I believe). Can anybody help with a…

Drip-feeding problems
Hi all, first post here. :D I'm currently implementing my "Savings fountain", and have got my ISA up and running. I've also applied for the ICICI HiSave account, as recommended on this site, and was going to get the Halifax Regular saver to drip-feed it with (I'm already set up at Halifax, and the rate is OK so it's…

ICICI Hi-Save A/C holders check your January interest
I have an ICICI Hi-Save Account and when I checked the interest for January I noticed it was substantially lower than Decembers. The interest rate hasn't altered during this time, both months have 31 days and my balance has only increased and yet the interest had dropped. I have calculated that it was 13% lower than it…

If Worst Came To The Worst !
Lets say a foreign bank went down for example ICESAVE and they could not give savers back their monies. They hold £5bn of UK savers money. How would the FSCS be able to pay this money back to the depositors, do the FSCS hold this sort of liquid? or is it underwritten by an insurance company?

Credit default swaps: how to spot the riskiest banks
http://www.moneyweek.com/file/41437/credit-default-swaps-how-to-spot-the-riskiest-banks.html Capital preservation and high investment returns may (for some) turn out to be mutually exclusive. How much attention should we pay to the risk side of the equation or is the "less than £35K strategy in any institution" a safe one…

Investing in Trust Fund
My late father created a Discretionary Trust in his will. The fund needs to be invested in the name of my sister and myself as Trustees. My solicitor has advised me that the Trust will attract income tax at 40%. He advised me that if the Trustees invested in 'non-incoming producing assets' then we would avoid the higher…

Hi All, I'm an expat in Spain with £60,000 to invest mainly to benefit as a monthly income to use as living expenses. Best strategy for regular savers?
Is there a perceived best strategy for regular savers? To my mind it seems that by far the best strategy is to go for the ones with no upper limit initially. If you keep them for a few years the extra interest should easily beat the "12-month" offers. Do others agree or am I missing a trick? (I'm talking about the best…

Icesave - Unable to top up fixed rate accounts
I opened a 2 year fixed rate account with Icesave a couple of weeks ago with £2000 from my easy access Icesave account. I was hoping to add some money to the account but have just discovered that this is not possible. I wasn't aware of this. It looks like I'll have to open a 1 year fixed rate account once my funds have…

A funny thing happened when I re-invested.......
Ok, so two years ago I held the majority of my investments in UTs / OIECs and I wasn't happy about my inability to trade the investments either time wise or price certainty so.................. I thought I'd swap my UTs / OIECs for similar ITs as these can be traded quickly like normal equities (which in essence they are).…
