Child savings accounts and £100 interest limit
Hi, My wife and I are thinking of opening a savings account for our 1 year old daughter. I have read that we can earn up to £100 interest each per year without it becoming liable to tax. So we have a total interest max of £200 between us. At today rates of around 5.7% that means we could deposit around £3,500 between us,…

NatWest e-Savings Account - Interest
Hello, This is my first post so please forgive me if it has been added in the wrong place. Basically I am wondering if anyone can explain (in simple terms) how the NatWest e-Savings account works - in relation to the interest made. What I tend to do is pay in a large amount each month (to the e-Savings account) and then,…

Safe place for 2007/08 Stocks & Shares ISA allowance?
Hi - I've fully used my 2007/2008 Cash ISA allowance, but haven't used the £4000 of my Stocks & Shares ISA allowance yet. I don't want to "lose" the latter when the tax year rolls around, but given the volatility of the current equity market (which I'm already quite heavily invested in) and myself with only a medium term…

Seeking alternative account
Hi everyone, I'm currently using a nationwide flex account (Interest rates between 0.10% and 4%, depending on how much is paid in that month). However, I keep the majority of my money in the attached e-savings account (5.55%). I'm looking for an account which will enable me to earn more interest than this (About 9/10th of…

Maxi ISAs vs Mini ISAs
Hi all, I currently have a mini cash ISA account. I can put £3K a year on it, and in the last few years, I'd estimate that it averaged %5.6 ish gross interest rate . I just talked to a finance adviser who said that the Maxi ISA makes my money work harder. However, this involves share markets, and thus there is risk.…

Short term £20k savings, UK or Germany?
We have (hopefully) sold our house in the UK, and will have £20k left over. We will be renting over here until we find a decent prperty to buy in Germany. We want to save the money, is it best to put it in a savings account over here, or in Germany? We need instant access, interest rates seem to be better over here, but…

AA bank
Anyone know whether the AA bank is independent of the HBOS group or not or are they simply allowing HBOS to use the AA brand as a front? I see on the site that it says Birmingham Midshires, part of HBOS, does the banking for them. Just wondering whether they lie with regards to the 35K FSA guarantee.

Don't really know where to put this, hope it's ok here, anyway... This morning my eBay account was hijacked, along with possibly my email account. Jar full of change to exchange for notes
My partner and I have been collecting £1 and £2 coins in a jar for the last 18 months and now have approximately £500 worth. This has been earmarked for a new TV. However, the fun part is now changing it into something that is acceptable to spend (rather than watching the guy in the electrical shop running out of fingers…
