ICICI - cannot open Single account if bank account is in joint names
I've just tried to open an ICICI HiSave account in my sole name. I applied on line, and then sent a cheque for the initial deposit as requested. They have refused my cheque because it came from a joint bank account, and have told me that I must either send them a cheque from a sole bank account, or change the HISave…

Open an ISA?
My other half and I need to save for our wedding. Our plan is to put AT LEAST £300.00 away every month (our finances are joint) and the wedding will be in July 2009 and we want to start saving from May (at the latest) this year. From what I gather, an ISA is the best way to go (please tell me if I'm wrong) but, I have a…

Interest on savings
Can anyone tell me "Am I being conned"? Dec 2007 I started a savings account with ICICI. To do so I was required to make an initial deposit and then set up a direct debit to facilitate monies being transferred from my Halifax current account to the ICICI savings account. This arrangement was to take place on the 1st of…

Yorkshire Building Society - Advantage 50+ Saver
Yorkshire Building Society have added a new savings account for the over 50's. Not especially remarkable interest rate wise, but it may be attractive to travellers as it comes with free annual european travel insurance for those aged between 50-75 years. You need to fund the account with £5k and there a some other strings…

Using a regular savings account for a child's savings
We're about to setup a cash savings account to sit along side the F&C CTF account that we setup a while back for our daughter. Reading through Martin's guide to child savings it seems I should be able to get an account with just over 6% interest for her, but the current best savings account is more like 6.4 from the most…

Selling shares, best broker price
I have an amount of shares I would wish to sell, but seems as though I have never done this before, I would like to get the best value brokers/sales for my shares. I have approximately £800 worth of shares. The registrars for the company stated they would charge 65 euro to sort this out. Is that good?

Savings advice needed for Novice.
Following some good advice from here on a previous thread my girlfriend has asked me to post another question (why do I get left with these jobs?) She wants to transfer some of her money out of IceSave (as there is too much here at the moment) and into a different savings account preferably one with an equally high…

Short term investment
We have just sold our house in order to move nearer to my husband's work. It was a 28 day exchange cash sale, so have decided to move in with in-laws rather than be rushed into buying something. My husband has now had some approaches about working abroad, but this would be in 6-9 months time, so at the moment we are unsure…

Spreading money across accounts - Have I got it right?
My OH and I are set to complete our house sale on the 28th Feb and will be moving in with my mum while we look for another. We will have 170k in equity. So far we have opened an AA account each, a joint Newcastle Building Society account and I was planning on opening a Bradford & Bingley account. On looking at Martin's…

Icesave beware
Just a warning. IceSave seem to be having problems with the site and I have been blocked from and logged off when active about 90% of the times in recent weeks. Linnks don't work, etc etc. Nice lady on the phone admits they have IT issues but this bank is organised in such a way that if they block your account (for no…

ISA Advice for a student please
Hi, I have £500 in premium bonds which i have had for 18months, but have only won £50. i used martins premium bonds calculator and i have 35% chance of winning £50 again, whereas if i put it in a isa, i would get £48 for the first year, and so on. My question is, does it seem wise to put the £500 in an isa, instead of…

money for the future
Hi MoneySavers My university course entitles me to a bursury of £3k/year. But I don't see the point in just spending it all on student life? Unfortunately a savings account isn't an option for me, neither is anything relying on interest as a reward...which narrows down my options... How can I put this money to good use?
