Is Bradford & Bingley safe?
I have read that Bradford & Bingley have 40% to 50% of their mortgages in the buy to let market. With UK house prices now going South, and house prices in the US already having fallen by up to 50%, is B&B a safe place to have your savings? Could they be the next NR? I hear that B&B is having to pay higher LIBOR rates to…

NS&I Index-Linked Savings Certificates
The new 'online calculator' for the Index-Linked Savings Certificates is updated this morning http://www.nsandi.com/products/ilsc/calculator.jsp. But can anyone suggest any reason why the valuations should be lower than the last edition of the calculator, which was as at 15 January, when the RPI has just turned upwards and…

Unit Trusts. General Advice
Long story short - heavily in debt, then debt free, then saved like bu*gery to get to about £10,000 in ISA's and savings. I'd like to start thinking about something with a slightly higher risk and possible rate of return, with long term growth in mind. Filling up our ISA's and having that guaranteed chunk of cash will…

Views on my portfolio
I am a newbie investor and want to put away about £4000 (his money from grandparent gifts) this year for my 14 year old son. This would be for at least 10 years and I may add to it. As this is long term I could tolerate 20% losses without worry or wanting to pull out. My son also has about £3000 as 'cash' for shorter term…

Erm... cheers Egg - a quarter point decrease and you decrease rates by half a point. Shaft your credit card holders, then shaft your savers. Nice move.

Bradford and Bingley, will the rate drop?
Bradford and Bingley seem to be pretty good at dropping their rates when the base rate goes down, so I am assuming that we will see some kind of drop, soonish. Does this mean that they are likely to launch yet another issue of the internet saver? It seems that when the rate drops that is their cue to launch something…

Am i missing something with ISA,s
I dont understand how they are tax free for a basic rate tax payer. As when you take your money out you pay tax. As Martin says when you move from ISA to ISA never take your money out, but do a transfer. Could some explain how you get the money out when you need the cash without paying income tax. Thanks in Advance.

Bonds Fund Accumulation Units advice please
Every now and then I think I have grasped the basics and then doubt creeps in. Can I ask a most basic question? If I had purchased £1000 (1000 x 100p) of accumulation units in a Corporate Bond fund this time last year and the 1yr return on the Morningstar performance listings shows as -2.00% then what financial return…
