Bradford & Bingley - Exciting News?

Hi,
On Friday morning (8/02) I had a telephone call from someone, saying he represented B&B. He went on to say, that the Annual Accounts Report had been prepared and was on its way to me, but as it had been printed it omitted some exciting news which would be released via the media next week!!!. He had all my details(name and address) and asked me to confirm they were correct. He has rang again this afternoon when I was out, but told my husband he would ring back - (he hasn't). I no longer have any savings with them but my husband has. Call me suspicious but I can't help it. Has anyone else had a call like this? - Sally

No,i haven't and i have been with them for ages.It does sound suspicious, why would they single out your husband, and if it was to do with him they would not speak to you. However as there seemed to be no personal questions i am certainly puzzled as you must be.As long as you gave nothing away there's no harm done!!

I would give B&B a call and tell them this story.
This is not financial nor legal nor property advice. Consult a paid professional if in doubt.
  • Hi,

I suggest you be very very wary. Don't give any personal information to this person and if it were me I'd ask him to write with all the information he's wanting to tell you, if it's genuine it should come on headed note paper and you should be able to trace it back. I might be wrong but it initially sounds like a scam and he'll probably try and sell you some shares or something. If he phones again try 1471 and see if there's a number (it will probably be withheld).

    Please be careful

This sounds highly suspect to me. Anyone can quite easily obtain your name and address detail from the electoral role, or even your bin.

When this person calls you again be sure to get a contact telephone number. Then when he hangs up check what number is on your caller ID. Then telephone B&B and explain what has happened. This all sounds highly unlikely to me. Be careful not to divulge further details, ie of your bank account numbers etc and if you have already then be sure to contact the bank anyway to be on the safe side.
  • Hi,
Thanks for all the input. What I can tell you from the very short conversation I had with him, that he was extremely well spoken (arn't they all?) and that the second call yesterday was the same man as Mr. Sallysaver answered the phone to, initially last Friday and recognised it to be the same voice He hasn't got a 'cat in h-lls chance of getting any card information out of me' but now I am doubly wary believe me! Thanks again - Sally

sounds like you have just confirmed your details to an ID fraudster. Did they say you won the B+B prizedraw lol.
  • Hi,
No mention of any prizes. Conversation as first post, he already had my name and address. The phone has just rang and it was 'caller withheld' so I withheld answering it! He said his name was Martin Hardy both times. Sally

Sally, answer the call from him. Then say you're in a bit of a rush and can you call him back shortly. Ask him for his number and then see what that yields.
  • I think Bradford & Bingley and exciting news has taken on a different meaning after their year end results today!
    Nothing to see here
  • Had one exactly the same a couple of hours ago. Very fast talker and I am concerned that he knew my name, telephone number & address PLUS the fact that I had dealings with Bradford & Bingley. I contacted Bradford & Bingly through their website. Feel very vulnerable.
