Do you own shares in Bradford & Bingley. Have they got details from shareholders register?0
-
I do have B&B shares and did think about the register, but this has never happened before and worry about what the caller is up to... obviously I'm not alone. Good to read other comments.0

Do you receive child benefit? I believe a small amount of such data went missing a short while ago ....Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

Reply from Bradford & Bingley:-
We were notified earlier this month of calls to our account holders by a company called Chamberlain & Co, These involved asking for home addresses to be confirmed and offering to send infornation about Bradford & Bingley that hadn't been made public. Whilst not wishing to alarm you, I do feel it is worth reporting the telephone call to both BT and the police, so they may investigate the matter further.
Am about to do that.0 -
How strange.. what can they get from doing this?

Hmm...
They describe themselves (on their website) as :
"a debt management and insolvency practice located in the UK" (Leeds) "which has considerable experience in advising companies, businesses and individuals with financial problems".
Their 'contact-us' web-page includes an 0800 telephone number, so you could always ring them for free and ask what they want ....Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

Dont waste the police time, there is nothing they can or will do as nothing has happened ? You are doing the right thing by being wary.0

Anybody holding shares in their name - as opposed to a holding within a nominee account - is liable to receive unsolicited calls of this kind. Shareholders' registers are available to the public and include the shareholder's name and address. The phone number is often easily obtained and may remain so long after you go ex-directory. The caller invariably starts by claiming some connection with a company in which you are a shareholder, and then usually refers to some previous (imaginary) contact with you.
I receive regular calls of this kind. Registering with the Telephone Preference Service used to help, but these days I get calls from Europe and the USA which the TPS can do nothing to discourage.
There is a BT service that blocks all calls where the caller's number is withheld (?or unknown) but this costs money and won't be appropriate for everyone. I have even considered changing my number. I sometimes ask the caller why they don't get a proper job and do something useful, but I don't expect they take any notice, just calling me again the next time they reach my phone number on the widely available CD they are using.

There's little to get excited about regarding the Bradford and Bingley, in fact I wouldn't want any of my money there at the moment. Take a look at their share price:
