Now I am going to be a big looser in the police pensions reforms however without going into the detail of that I am sure I have read somewhere that there is a piece of EU law that states pension schemes cannot be changed when someone is within 10 years of retirement. Can anybody point me in the direction of this…

Pension advice
Moved job recently and have moved from a 0.6% AMC Aviva Lifestyle Fund (at the riskier end with more equities) to Aegon. With Aviva I was contributing 6% and my employer 5% and I've built up £11k, age 28 (ok, not much!). NEw job, employer pays 8.5% and I'm thinking about paying 7.5% - that's what I've been urged to do,…

Commercial/residential property in a SIPP
I am thinking of setting up a SIPP to buy some commercial property that has a couple of flats above it. The flats are part of the price for the commercial property. Can I buy this property, including the flats, in a SIPP? If not, what would I need to do, sell just the commercial property to the SIPP and then leave the…

Voluntary contributions, worth it?
I'm a full time student, in my 20's. I've only ever been in education so have made no contributions. I have almost fifty years left until I can retire. Should I pay voluntary contributions to cover this time or should I just wait until I finish training (will be working most likely for the NHS). When should I worry about…

Avc advice
My husband has a Free standing AVC that he's been paying into since 1991. He paid into it until he retired in 2002. He did not buy an annuity but has recently decided that he wants to take it now. New Aviva Pension - Portfolio choice
Time for a new year financial makeover of my pension arrangements, so I am just about to start a new Aviva Personal Pension via Cavendish. NHS Pension query: impact of dropping a day
Hi I was prompted to ask this question by another similar thread that's currently active. There are however a few specifics about my own query that makes me think I'm best to start a new thread. I am lucky enough to be in the NHS scheme and have MHO status which means I can retire at 55 (just under 5 years time) I…

Pension to pay mortgage
I have a mortgage that has 13 years to run, at the moment I overpay by £200/month, I'm thinking of increasing the over payment by another £200 making a total of £400/month. I'm a 40% tax payer aged 49, and pay £500/month into a pension by salary sacrifice. With the 40%+ tax relief would I be better paying the £400/month…
