Treated myself (a wee bit long)
OS feels like home so I hope it's ok to post here. Over the last few months, I moved into my new house and have really come such a long way. I can even make a white sauce without checking a recipe! Trust me, this is a big acheivement as I can't do anything without a recipe and had never made a white sauce until a few…

American muffin cases- where to buy?
Can anyone advise the cheapest source for American muffin cases. I can find the Supercook ones at Tesco costing 90p for 75 ie. about 12p for 10 cases. Does anyone have a source cheaper? I've made my own muffin moulds by wrapping tinfoil round 44cm strips of cardboard and then stapling together in a circle. I've made 24 and…

soup too salty
I made pea and ham soup this morning using the gammon stock from the weekend but it is a little too salty (and there was less than 100ml of stock). Now I know you are supposed to be able to decrease the saltiness by adding potato but I can't remember how. Do you add a whole potato and remove it once it's cooked or do you…

Child's sun hat pattern?
I want to make my children some sun hats for the summer. I'm rubbish at sewing - so it needs to be very simple. I'm thinking of something in cotton with a floppy brim. I've been searching the internet for a free pattern - but can only find knitted hats, or very frilly baby hats. Does anyone have any ideas where to find a…

OK, so thanks to some very helpful people on this Board last week I am now the proud owner of a Morphy Richards 6.5L slow cooker. It has looked pretty and shiny in my kitchen all weekend but now I need to pluck up the courage and cook in it! This is probably going to sound really daft to those of you who know what you are…

I am hoping to get stardrop tomorrow when in town - if I remember, but this got me thinking about whether there was any other cleaners you recommend. Cooking Lentils - where am I going wrong?!
I think I'm doing something wrong when I cook lentils! I always thought they retained their shape when they were cooked but mine always seem to end up turning into mush. Which is fine when I'm making soups but not so great for things like dahls and stews. I've been following the instructions on the packet which said to…
