Container Home Grown Veggies (merged)
Hi all. I really want to start growing veg but my back garden is paved over so cant have a veggie plot and my 3 border collies think they have green fingers and just love digging up pots (then bringing them into the house to have a chew). In the River Cottage Family Cookbook lovely Hugh :D shows you how to grow spuds in a…

My children are fed up with OS :(
My children are fed up with Old Style meals and me cooking everything from scratch. I've tried burgers, chicken nuggets, pizzas etc etc home made but they turn their noses up at it. I cant get them to eat anything from the slow cooker without them moaning about it all the way through. So tonight I've resorted to frozen…

Where to start? Any good books or websites? (Would prefer a book…

Help need for cleaning car seat Upholstery please
Hi, Anyone got any ideas for cleaning car upholstery on the cheap? I've got light grey patterned seats and had the car for about 2.5 years now - not washed the insides...and they're looking a bit manky. Plus I had a pot of yoghurt leak in the car and now have some very obvious pale purple slodges on the passenger seat!…

Make Do and Mend
My son has just finished doing WW11 at school and it's got me thinking how I have changed my attitude since OH was made redundant. These are some of the small ways we have improvised during the last year and thought it would be interesting to read other people's stories as I think it falls within the OS remit: 1.My coffee…

Food hygiene question - chicken stock
I know you aren't supposed to reheat more than once but what about things like meat stock where you are likely to be reheating multiple times by nature? I roasted a chicken on Sunday night and then on Monday I boiled up the remaining meat and carcass. It was boiling for about 2 hours and then I left it to cool. Due to the…
