Time to change my car...or not?
I've got a Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 petrol 03 model with 76k on the clock. At 9 years old, I'm starting to think about whether it's time to change cars or not. I had to fit a new clutch at £600 last November, and don't want any more 'nasty surprises'! I've seen a Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel 09 model with only 16k on the clock…

When best to buy a 207?
OH wants to change her car, currently a 3yr old 1.9 Fiat Grande Punto Sport. She wants something nippy like that, so guess 100bhp +, but smaller than the Punto. I was looking at the 207 sports in various guises, and told that this is finishing. Now, the new one comes out around mid June. Can anyone in the trade tell me…

Hertz car hire hold on funds
Not 100% sure this is in the correct place so I apologise in advance if it is not. My husband rented a hire car from Hertz uk last Wednesday. We have it rented until the 20th of this month. Upon booking the car online it gave 2 options pre pay or pay on collection. I selected pre pay as it was cheaper by about £50. Firstly…

New tyres from ebay..what should I look for?
As my car has got large tyres (19 inch) which are not cheap, I thought I will start looking for a good deal on a set of tyres and store them. I think I will need to replace my tyres in a year time. I contacted a seller on ebay who advertised for two new Continental tyres and he said he can sell me four new tyres for £650.…

AWD Estate options...
Hiya, I’m looking at the possibility of swapping my current car (Volvo S40 T Sport) for an AWD Estate or 4x4. I love the S40 but now find it too low and it doesn’t now have sufficient boot space for family requirements. Criteria is 2.0 (give or take) litre for reasonable performance versus fuel economy and running costs -…

Octavia 1.9TDi hot start problem
Hi everyone, I'd be grateful if anyone could give me a little advice. I have a 2005 Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi that struggles a little with hot restarts. I've been living this for a while but am wondering if I ought to get this looked at and what it might cost to get fixed if I did? My car starts no problem from cold, including…

Dorset Speeding Fine
Back last August I recieved a speeding ticket from a camera in Bournemouth. 03.08.12 to be exact. I was out of work and determined to fight what I saw as unjust so went not guilty. At about Christmas time I recieved a letter from Dorset Police asking me if I had changed my mind because if I had I could pay them £100+ and…

What's the best way to solve this?
I own a peugeot 107. OH has just sold his car due to the amount he was spending repairing it (was peugeot 106 bought from auction). Now, we both work and need separate cars. OH earns approx. £150 a week so around £600 a month. I am not much better of as a student with 3k to last me 3 months (but have just got a part time…

Average speed check
You know on the motorway when there is roadworks, and the speed dropps to 50mph, they have the average speed cameras... I have heard that if you change lanes I between cameras then they can't monitor your speed correctly. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm not a speeder (most of the time) but was just wondering :)

Car insurance mileage
Random one... But when you renew your car insurance they always ask you how many miles you drive a year. I get why - someone driving 10,000 miles has less chance of having an accident than someone doing 50,000 miles. I do around 30,000 miles a year, but tell my insurance co that I do 19,000 as this made it cheaper. My…

Stolen deposit on motorbike
I recently gave a guy a £60 deposit for a motorbike and obtained a receipt. It has since transpired that the seller was not the legal owner of the vehicle and had previously bought the bike with a cheque that was then cancelled. He has obviously since decided he isn't a master criminal and the bike has now been returned to…

Advice on a Nissan Micra 2003
Hello lovely money-savers, I'm in a bit of a grump because my engine management light came on in my Nissan Micra and I'm after some advice. There is a bit of a saga with this, so please stay with me! In December 2010, I bought a used 2003 Nissan Micra. from a fairly reputable local dealer. I thought I was being smart,…

High mpg cars (approx £5k)
Hi - I'm hoping someone could help me out, as I've tried googling for information but am unsure which websites to trust or which are most reliable, as well as getting some search results which are years old and those which relate to brand new cars only... Anyway, my question is this - I'll soon be increasing my commute and…

Speed camera no insurance
Hello guys, I'm in a strange situation. I usually leave my car at my friend's place when I go to work. He is free to drive it if he likes (I leave keys with him). He shared my car with his college from abroad for a one day. The guy got flashed by a camera and I got a letter. It wouldn't be a big issue but the guy who got…
