Talking down dealer.
I'm looking at a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T3. It's a 2004 plate & garage claims it's only done 27000 miles. They are asking £4795 & I'm wondering what will be a fair offer to put in?

insurance increase, can they do this ?
Hi guys forgive me if I'm not in the right forum but i cant find one specificaly or my problem .. which is, in may, my wife had an accident in which the other party assumed liability. We finally got everything sorted (car repaired ) and dusted or so we thought. We then sold the car ( mini ) and got a more economical model…

Is it mad to sell my car to 'buyanycar' type place?
I've never sold a car before, and as a single female I'm not keen on the idea of advertising privately and having random blokes coming round to test drive (or whatever people do to check out a car). I presume the 'anycar' type dealers don't pay what I might get for the car in a private sale, but I've no idea how much I…

VW Polo vs. Ford Fiesta
Hi, I'm torn between a new Ford Fiesta automatic and a new VW Polo automatic. The prices are almost the same, but which is more economical in the long run? How about servicing and repairs? I don't quite like Fiesta's "wing" centre console, but that's not a deal breaker for me. I prefer Fiesta's exterior look though. Let's…

Quick Question for a Mechanic! * Updated, disgusted with garage*
Never used this part of MSE before but thought someone may be able to answer a quick question for me (more like confirm what I already think!). I've been having problems with my 01 Fiesta Zetec S overheating, my mechanic has just taken out the thermostat and we think the garage fitted it the wrong way round!!! Could…

MOT Failed - Please advice
When for an MOT test it failed due to the following: 7.4.B.2a - Exhaust emits an excessive level of metered smoke for a non-turbo charged engine. 2.5.B.1a Near side front suspension has excessive play in lower suspension ball joints I've booked my car on Monday to get the front nearside ball joints replaced, is it better…

MOT Due - Council Run Centre Or Usual Garage?
Every other year, the usual garage replaces the rear brake caliper at a cost of £250 plus labour. So would appreciate any thoughts on, or experiences of using Council Run MOT Centres

Car has failed its MOT - help please!
Today I took my car up to a MOT testing station I don't usually use, and I am very suspicious around the may they have carried out the test. It has failed on 5 things. 001 Front Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid [8.2.3] 002 Nearside Rear parking brake recording little or no effort [3.7.A.7A] And my two…

Very low mileage car
Hi, I've found a very low mileage Ford Fiesta at around 50mi only. I'm not sure if it's an ex-demo or a wrong order, but the asked price is very much the same as the typical discounted price of a new one (according to Autoebid). Should a car with such a low mileage be expected to have the same price as a discounted new…

Used car road tax
Hi, Do prices advertised on windscreens and on websites like Autotrader typically include road tax? Are those prices "drive away" prices and is there no more to pay? Thanks!

Do you tip?
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place :) I had to be rescued by the AA yesterday, the guy got my car sorted and I was able to get home, but I was wondering if I should have given him a tip. It's the first time I've had to call them out in 6yrs. Is there an unwritten rule regarding tipping?

Is leasing a car a good idea?
As we could be looking at a fairly expensive fault with our car which we won't be able to afford, we're looking into the possibility of leasing a new car instead but have a few questions. We'd be looking to pay a max of £250 per month and I know most lease cars include free road tax but what I'm wondering is are things…

Oinks using the A3 Tunnel as racetrack
Evidently the racers are tearing through the tunnel in the night with their windows down so they can get the full benefit of the noise of their engines flat out. The Police are considering their options. How about sending a very large bulldozer up the tunnel from the other end !

Email re: filling cars with petrol - is this genuine?
TIPS ON FILLING YOUR CAR(S) * Only buy or fill up your car or bakkie in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol expands, so buying in the afternoon…

Vauxhall Astra Twinport convertible boot problem
HI all - suddenly at lunch time the boot is stuck - the reason I found this out was that a gong sounded on the dash (no lamp showing) and when I got home checked it out in the handbook (for the roof mechanism) it seems the gong will operate if it thinks the roof is being operated and then the gong pings to advise you are…
