Five months of gearbox problems with a 2011 VW Polo GTI
Hello all, thought the 'consumery' guys on here might fancy having some input on the problems I have been experiencing with the DSG gearbox my 2011 Polo GTI. It was purchased new on 5th March. About three weeks into ownership, I had a problem. I was using the manual paddle shift mode on the car and drove up to a speed…

Dealer lowered £500 off £4500 car , Hmmmm
On Friday I saw a 2006 56 reg Focus for sale at £4500 on Auto Trader , I checked the ad again earlier and noticed the price has now droped to £4000. Obviously dealers reduce prices if they want to get a bit more interest in a car but I was suprised at the amount it's been dropped. Seems strange to me as He has an older…

Fuel Service Plus - worth the money?
First off, a declaration: I'm hopeless when it comes to cars. So apologies if this post frustrates the regulars. My car is due its MOT, and being skint I've elected to get it done at the newly opened Halfords Autocentre (previously a Bosch Car Service certified garage) for £27.42. The car has done less than 6000 miles…

Machargs - Nearly new car panels repainted.
We purchased a 10 month old vw golf from Machargs in Glasgow on last Wednesday, after asking the usual questions if it had been in any accidents or repaired to which response was no. However after being away for a few days I noticed on Sunday the tailgate and rear bumper were a different shade of paint from the rest of car…

NMR/DVLA discrepancy - should I walk away?
Hi all, I've just looked at a 2006 Honda Civic that I really like and want to buy. Having done an HPI check on it, I got the dreaded "discrepancy" which looks like the below: Data currently held on the National Mileage Register (NMR) indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle. Mileages as recorded by…

updating nissan integrated satnav
I am looking to update my satnav as the original disc is in the system that is integrated into the car. The car is a 54 plate Nissan XTrail and I have had a look online but can't work out if I can just buy a new disc and slot it in or need the whole thing reprogrammed through the dealership. I have seen discs for around…

Do You Think That Cyclists Should be Insured and Registered On Roads, I do
I wonder if they should bring in a law so that cyclists on the roads are registered like car drivers. Why? because if the cyclist hits someone crossing they are not insured and can ride off into the blue yonder and no one can trace them? The amount of cyclists that just go over crossings on red when people are actually…

Fixed Penalty Red Lights
I went through a set of lights on amber the other day, then i was pulled by an officer who said the lights were on red. I am convinced the lights were amber. I am going to take the matter to court as I will lose my job if the 3 points are added to my license. I asked at the police station about the "red light course" a…

Hello all! I've got a Young Person's Railcard (16-25 railcard) which expires on the 30th Sept 2011. The T&C according to their website say that you can buy the year railcard up to the day before your 26th Birthday. Unfortunately I am 26 on the 22 August and so it will be too late for me to renew for another year by time my…

Sat Nav voices - where has Joanna Lumley gone?
We used to have a great Joanna Lumley voice on our TomTom XL, but she disappeared (during an update, I think) and she doesn't seem to exist any more. Even Googling her leads to dead ends - her name comes up, but when you follow the link she seems to have been removed. Any idea whether she is still available?:)
