Strange Inheritance
Due to some odd circumstances my husband has ended up inheriting half of his brothers house, which his brother still lives in. It’s been nearly 4 years now and whilst my brother in law and my husband have agreed they must talk, we continue to pay a £1000 mortgage whilst the brother lives rent-free and mortgage free. Before…

Remortgaging with Help To Buy Loan
Hi everyone, just looking for some advice please. We bought our house in April 2019 using the 20% help to buy loan. Fixed rate mortgage is up in Nov 2020. I believe we could remortgage and pay off the loan but my question is should we do this now (less than 2 years into the HTB) or wait until the 5 years is up? Thank you!…

HSBC have pulled 90 LTV mortgages for FTB
I see from today HSBC are no longer accepting 90 ltv mortgage applications from first time buyers. They say on their website that its due to very high demand so hopefully it will be temporary while they work through the backlog. I currently have an application in with them and believe they will still process it!..... I…

lump sum mortgage overpayment
Does it make any difference (worth it) if I make a small amount overpayment? I still have about £65 K left on my mortgage, I'm planning to make a one off £1500 lump sum overpayment. I'm on fixed rate. Apart from making my mortgage and interest rate (possible) less, I don't think it'll reduce my monthly payment? Thanks. San

Getting a mortgage while working long notice period
I've handed in my notice at work, which is a year long notice period. My last day is 21 June 2021. My husband and I are looking to buy our first house in the next few months. Do I need to tell mortgage providers that I've handed in my notice at work? I'm probably going to have a salary decrease when I start a new job next…

Buying over the odds mid-fix!!
My current fix is coming to an end in November. We owe 122K and TSB value our place at 220K. So sub 60% LTV, good rates, and they go on their prediction. No drive-by or survey required. We have a seen a house that is 250K but we plan on offering 280K. We're in Scotland, so the home report valuation drives LTV and we are…

YTD and Monthly Earnings Disparity
Hi, I’m currently on furlough having worked part-time last year. I’m hoping to return to work on full-time hours next month. I’m also hopeful that the pay rise I agreed with my employer before the pandemic will go ahead. Obviously my furlough pay is based on the previous 12 months’ earnings, so is based on my part time…

Paying off current mortgage before house move
My wife and I are planning to move home in the near future - as soon as we find somewhere having already accepted an offer on our current home. Before that happens, our mortgage fix comes to an end on October 31st and, given we've been saving to move, we're in a position to pay if off. But, might not having an active…

Mortgage approval with a credit balance? Success stories?
Hi, I'm just looking for anyone's experiences of getting a mortgage approval despite having a credit balance. I'm currently awaiting approval from Halifax to purchase a new build I've reserved. Myself and my partner are FTBs but the application is in my name only due to poor credit on his part, so the application is based…

Our house is on the market and we currently have a small mortgage (it has no early repayment charges), when we sell and buy our next house it will be for cash (yippee).
