Dilemma: 17 year mortgage to enable higher pension contributions or 10 years and meagre pension?
Hello there, I am in the unusual situation of being a first-time buyer aged 51 and am in a quandary: my dad is very anti-mortgage (stung in the 90’s by mortgage hike to 15%) and is advising I take out as short a term as possible. However, I favour 17 year terms - around 1.14% - giving me leeway to fatten up my pension with…

What is the maximum price house I can buy with a £130,000 mortgage?
Hi I was wondering if anyone knows what the maximum price house I could buy with a £130,000 mortgage. Is the deposit excluded from this? So if I was offered a £130,000 mortgage and had a deposit of £13,000 does this mean I could buy a house that costs £143,000? Or is the maximum house cost £130,000? Thanks a lot. Julia
