First Time Buyer

We're going to have to have a mortgage, I was wondering if there's any schemes that can help with first time buyers? we do not want a new build! I'm currently paying off all debts and should…

Arrangement Fee and Survey
This is probably a really silly question but I’ve just applied for a mortgage where I’ll be paying the arrangement fee (£995) and survey which the bank is arranging (£500) upfront rather than adding them to the loan. How do I pay these? Do I pay by debit card/cheque etc straight to the bank?

Porting Halifax mortgage - evidence required
Hi All I have an existing mortgage of balance £130,000 with Halifax and I'm looking to move home, borrowing an extra £60k. My LTV will be about 88% on the new home. I discussed this with Halifax on the phone and got an AIP for what we want to borrow, in fact we can borrow a little more on paper than what we actually need…

Using inheritance from a lifetime mortgage.
Hi! My grandparents took out out a lifetime mortgage on their home. Due to internet its currently around 30% of market value. I would like to be able to perchase the house when they go as they self built. I have worked out I can afford it if I can combine the equity from the sale of my current home (brought with ex) with…

What doesCapital repayment mean when overpaying???
I would like a little advice regarding my mortgage, I would like to overpay as much as possible without incurring early repayment charges. My original amount borrowed was £163500 over 25years, fixed for 10 years @ 2.99%.(Barclays). I’m allowed to make overpayments of 5% of the capital each year. Now my question is what is…

Long term fix even though planning on a move
Hello All Any advice is appreciated. My fix is due to end in December and I can get a two year no fee deal for 1.79%, borrowing 104,000 for a house valued at 200,000. We need to move within 3 years tops and I’m wondering if it’s worth getting a 5 or 10 year fix which is portable and securing a low rate whilst they are very…

Childcare Voucehers - Mortgage Application
Good afternoon all, I've gone an re-vamped my profile (apparently I was last here in 2013!) to seek some assistance. Please be gentle! I'm considering the possibility of moving next year. Probably around March/April is when I'd consider listing our property. This was our first home (bought 7 years ago) so I'm quite out the…

Title and mortgage change without selling??
Hi, I own a flat in my name only along with a mortgage on the property. Mortgage value is somewhere 50%-60%LTV. Also own a house with the wife. We are getting a divorce and the simplist thing we can think to do is remove her name from the house and mortgage (my salary easily allows for this) and then put her name against…

Mortgage Overpayment or Pension lump sum top up?
Afternoon all, Sorry for the cross over in sub’s. I’m wanting some guidance on either paying lump sums into my Pension, or as overpayment on my mortgage. Mortgage: £178k over 30 years. Currently on a 2 Year rate of 4%. I’m only 8 months into my mortgage. I understand I have limits in first 2 years of no more than 10%…

Remortgate with equity loan - Need *3* valuations!
I bought my house in 2011 with a 20% equity loan from the builder (same thing in principle as the later help-to-buy scheme, I imagine). I had to start paying back interest on it 2 years ago and will have to pay it off in full by May 2021. As I'm also now on the SVR rate (4.99%!), it would be stupid not to remortgage. I've…

First off apologies for repetition and ALL the question, I know a lot of similar questions come up but I didn't feel like searching was bringing up what I was looking for! Strange Halifax rule
We are currently going through remortgage as fixed rate is up. I receive child maintenance for my son and my partner pays child maintenance for his son. The payments are ironically the same and my partner has less than a year to go and my son's father has two years. My broker has informed us that Halifax are taking 100% of…

Help to Buy Advice
Hi, I bought my house under a help to buy scheme 5 years ago and heading to the end of the interest fee period. The help to buy equity loan from the government was for £45k. I am not sure what to do now - I don't have the funds/savings to pay off this off. Option 1 - should I consider paying it off via re-mortgage with my…

2004 Endowment Mortgage Help Please
Hi, I am hoping that somebody can help me. In 2004 we sold our house in West Sussex, the reason why we sold our house is we had a £30,000 shortfall on our endowment mortgage and we could not afford to remortgage our house to a repayment mortgage at that time. We were so worried that we would lose the house we decided to…

Fixture and fittings issue
We just moved into a new home a couple of days ago, on the fixtures and fittings form it was clearly stated that the washing machine would be left. Ticked in bodl as included. When we arrived there was just a gap instead of the washing machine. The estate agent has passed on the proof of the form via email to the seller to…
