Declined for decisions in principle with some but not all
Hi there, I have had an offer accepted on a house which I hope to move into shortly. In order to prove my finances I have applied for a decision in principle with my main bank account provider (they are not competitive and I don't wish to proceed with them). I have since found the deal I want with another bank (I also have…

Renewing mortgage while having a number of credit cards (used properly)?
I asked in the credit cards forum but really i suppose this forum would've been better for this question. November 2018 is when our 5 year fixed rate is up. We like the certainty of a fixed rate so we'll probably end up locking in for another term although whether the duration is 5yrs again or not who knows. I've made some…

interest rates

If i want 5 years i'm looking in the 4.74% range meaning payments will be around the £820 a month If i go for 2 years i'd only be on 4.04% and payments would be around the £740 a month…

Could my son buy half my house?
My son lives in my house - his rent covers the mortgage, etc. I've had a mortgage for years, owe about 38K on it. I live elsewhere, I'd like my son to get on the property ladder but he couldn't afford it. Would it be possible for him to buy half the house? A half share in the house he lives in? Could we be co-owners? How…

Second mortgage post divorce
Hi all, I have to apologise in advance for this not-so-festive thread, but over the last year I have found myself in a very difficult situation and it is proving difficult to move on with my life. In December last year me, my wife and our two daughters finally managed to save up enough money for a mortgage deposit and we…

HTB Question
Hi all, This is probably a really silly question, but if I am looking at buying a house using 5% deposit, 20% HTB equity loan, do I include both as my deposit when looking at a lenders mortgage calculator? So if I were looking at a 100k house, do I say I have 25k deposit? Thanks

Paying off someone else's mortgage...pitfalls?
I am due go inherit a sum of money next year. I had originally thought I would put it towards a deposit for my own property. However, circumstances have changed and I am considering paying off a relative's mortgage as they rather unexpectedly are no longer able to work and will probably never be able to again. I don't want…

Forward planning with the mortgage...
Hello :) First post here so I'm hoping I've put this in the 'right' part of the forum. A little background: I'm 34 and after living with my parents whilst saving bought my first home (a one bed flat, 33 sq m in total!) for £119,000 in summer 2016 (I did my homework and for the area I live this is reasonable). I have a…

DIP: LTV calculation - Can you factor in HTB equity loan?
Hi all I applied for a mortgage in principle with Halifax and got accepted. However they have based it on an LTV of 75%. This means that I would need to increase my deposit to fall within the terms that they have given in the DIP. I don't want to do this since I'd need to reallocate money from e.g. stamp duty fund/other…

Desperately Need to remortgage but thinking of moving?
Hello, I’m brand new to the forum...and looking for a bit of advice. We have an old northern rock mortgage that was bought out by landmark. I’m pretty sure we’re paying a lot (mainly because people keep telling us we are). We want to remortgage but hoping to move in the new year. Is it still worth remortgaging? I’m just…

My husband is not going to be on the mortgage or the deed. I will be a…

What are my chances? Santander appeal
Hi all Recently applied for a Santander mortgage. 69% LTV, DIP accepted and sent to full application. Went to underwriters but it has been declined due to affordability. I believe this is because my credit report still shows that I owe debt (loan, credit card etc) despite me paying it all off, completely clear, a few days…
