Could my son buy half my house?

My son lives in my house - his rent covers the mortgage, etc. I've had a mortgage for years, owe about 38K on it. I live elsewhere, I'd like my son to get on the property ladder but he couldn't afford it.
Would it be possible for him to buy half the house? A half share in the house he lives in?
Could we be co-owners? How would it work?
Constructive advice anyone?

You can not buy half a house as such, certainly not with if a Mortgage is involved.

He could become a joint owner. If a Mortgage is involved, there are not many lenders who will allow less lenders on the Mortgage (ie just your son) than is on the deeds (ie both of you), so if he plans on taking out a Mortgage you either need to do it jointly or find the handfull of lenders who will do... or speak to a broker.
