Taking over someone's mortgage
Hi there, I am after a bit of advice - I've had a search on here, can't find anything. Is it possible to step into and assume someone else's mortgage? In a nutshell; My Dad passed away recently and (amongst other things), left a large estate (in volume, not in value). However, the house and mortgage were in joint names…

Using an online calculator it works out that my monthly repayments would go up by about £20 a month. My house is currently…

FTB with a bit more than 5% deposit
I'm a first time buyer and have a 95% mortgage in principal. I am in a position to put down a larger deposit but not enough for 90% LTV. It will mean that I can buy a slightly more expensive house but borrow the same amount. Is this something which lenders will agree to?

Reasons for a mortgage
Hi, I have 2 flats, neither of which has a mortgage on it as my mum helped me with one of them, but i would like to take out 100k to pay her back. One is a rental so makes sense to get it on there for the tax break - is there a legitimate reason to go to a bank and ask for a mortgage?

mortgages vs 5% gifted builders deposit and incentives
Hi there, I have started a new Thread as I couldn't find any new post regarding this subject. Me and my husband we are buying a new house from Taylor Wimpey for £250k. They have offered us a 5% builders gifted deposit and also developers incentives. I know that some of the banks are not happy about this, as this will…

Mortgages for FTB with low deposit
I've looked at some 95% mortgages and I was wondering if the house has to be a new build or not and if the Save to Buy schemes are worth it. I have a relative who will be able to help me get together a 5% deposit (along with mine and my OH's contributions) and I'm looking at a house around 60K if possible. I don't have a…

Moving from Off-set to Repayment....The Practicalities?
Just a question for those that have done this: What were the practicalities of moving from an off-set mortgage (Virgin One, RBS One, Natwest, Etc) to a 'normal' repayment mortgage? Particularly interested in how you go about ensuring you had 'spent' enough of the available balance or facility to ensure the new mortage paid…

Providing extra information to lenders
I have a couple of missed credit card payments on my credit history (a year or two ago). I have bank records that clearly show how I am (or was) just a disorganized twit rather than a financially reckless or insolvent one - i.e. I always had a large bank balance but didn't pay off the much smaller credit card debt. Can I…

Getting a quote before you're ready to get a mortgage
I'm not yet quite ready to get a mortgage, but I want to know whether I'll get one. My landlord is selling up and there's not enough time to buy before I have to leave, so I need to find another place to rent first. The London housing market is full of, er, compromises, so to find a place I feel happy settling for, it…

Default Balances on Credit Report
Hi There, I'm new to this forum and to be honest I'm quite inexperienced when it comes to my credit status etc. I've placed this query in the mortgage section because me and my girlfriend are looking to get a flat between us rather than rent. I've taken a look at my credit report and its very poor (504 rating to be exact)…

First time buyer needs some basic but very important advice please
We have started to look around for buying a property as first time buyers. After doing the calculations, it turns out that after paying the mortgage (fixed for 2 years at 4.59% with 10% deposit) and other usual expenses we won't be left with much to save and it would be a stretch - at least in the near future. Now as the…
