My last fixed rate payment on my mortgage is in March and I have no idea what happens next! Do I get automatically put onto another rate or do I have to go in to the bank and sort it out? Am worried that the payments will go up when rate ends. Am currently with Barclays on a rate of 5.?%, if I went on their SVR rate today…

Interest rate increases post election
Someone suggested to me that it was inevitable that interest rates would increase post-election in May and so now would be a good time to consider getting a new mortgage deal. My fixed term contract ended last year and so I am on the variable rate currently. Any thoughts on this prediction?

Hi About to be a first time buyer, ideally looking for 75% LTV deals or under, (though there is a possibility of a bigger house with 80% LTV) for sum depending on house of between £75k up to £90k. Because I'm a first time buyer who's a little nervouse because of all the reading I've done on the (flat lining?) economy, I'd…

Mortgage for older low earners
Hi Everyone :) I'm looking a bit of advise for my dad and myself also. Our house is worth about £135000 or so at the moment and there is about £40000 left to pay on the mortgage. Problem is he lost his job a few years ago and has not been able to get anything else. He has taken up window cleaning which he enjoys doing but…

Offset mortgages - Should I pay a lump sum off
We are confused by our offset mortgage statement from the Woolwich. We have recently paid a lump sum of £10k off our £190k offset mortgage. The monthly interest charged on the mortgage has of course now fallen, but this has fallen by less than the amount of offset interest that our savings appeared to have been generating…

Endowment maturity
I'm not sure if I am on the right forum here. I have an endowment policy with Scot Widows maturing next month but it is not linked to a mortgage. I took it out 20 years ago and have been paying £130 per month ever since. The payout is £43,000 which I have used a spreadsheet to work out is a return of around 3.6% per annum.…

Fixed Rate Ending in May
My 5 year fixed rate with the Alliance & Leicester ends at the end of May. Our balance will only be around £30K from an original £37K mortgage. Our rate will move to a tracker at the end, 0.75% above base rate. Currently that would mean our rate would be 1.25%, a full 4% less than currently. Looking at the various fixed…

Scot Am/Prudential maturity
My endowment matures in May, and I know that they will write to me four weeks prior regarding payment details etc. I will actually be away on the maturity date. In your opinion (Dunstonh, my friend) can they delay issuing or sending the cheque as I don't want to have it hanging around on my kitchen floor for two weeks. I…

Sell endowment or use savings?
Hi We are currently in the process of extending our house. We are mortgage free, have savings in ISAs and an endowment policy. The question is - do we cash in the endowment policy or use our ISA savings to fund the build, or maybe get out a loan and keep the savings? The Endowment was taken out with a mortgage in 1991 but…

Need quikc mortgage offer for auction - not hearing good things about Abbey/Santander
Hi All, First post on here as just back onto the property market. Spoke to Abbey today as they seem to have a competitive rate for current customers on a 4 year fixed (4.99%). Got agreement in principle for the max amount we could get on an 85% LTV. Property we are after is on at auction, but fancy putting in an offer up…
