Hello, basically as the title says.
my girlfriend is on 9 months maternity leave at the moment, shes been on it for 1 month so far.
Were hoping to start looking for a house. We wondered how the maternity would effect our chances, Is she classes as employed??
Another reason i ask is because im self-employed and realise this will go against me.
Could anyone advise me also of which TYPE of mortgage I should be looking at with regards to being self-employed.
thanks for any help

assuming you can prove your income then you can pretty much look at any mortgage lender.
The maternity leave thing can be an issue but is workable. I would suggest you speak to a good whole of market broker who will be able to establish exactly how much you can borrow and from who so that you can look at houses that will suit your circumstances rather than falling in love with some where only to be told you can't buy it.
Sounds like exciting times though...good luckHappily an ex mortgage broker!0 -
Hi
We had the same issue when we remortgaged last year. I was on Mat leave and my partner is self-employed.
We decided to go with First Direct offset (so he could use his tax and vat to offset). All they required from me was a letter from my employer stating that I was on maternity leave and due to go back to work on whatever date and my salary was x (I can't remember if I also had to provide older payslips or not but I had a payrise on mat leave anyway and they used the bigger salary).
Good luck!0 -
ahh thanks.
so with referenece to the self -employed scenario, ive been told that not many lenders like to go near self-employed or self cert mortgages. unless ive a major deposit. I will have 25% deposit at the price range that ive worked out i can afford..
so best just to see a mortgage broker. I was thinking of phoning london and country?
thanks for your help0
